Chris Beck formerly known as Kristen Beck was a Navy Seal who transitioned to female. He became famous and was touted by the LGBTQ crowd as a great example, a hero. Now he's detransitioning back to being a male.

He's now speaking out against transitioning kids. Having lived through the process of transitioning he is an important voice to be heard. He has not said anything derogatory about trans people, but the ideology of the willingness of doctors and psychologists to label a kid transgender and start pumping the.full.of drugs and give them surgeries. He said this.

"Everything that happened to me for the last ten years destroyed my life. I destroyed my life. I’m not a victim. I did this to myself, but I had help.”

“I take full responsibility,” he continued. “I went on CNN and everything else, and that’s why I’m here right now, I’m trying to correct that.

I was used … I was very naive, I was in a really bad way, and I got taken advantage of. I got propagandized. I got used badly by a lot of people who had knowledge way beyond me. They knew what they were doing. I didn’t,” he said during the interview. "

Beck is warning against transitioning the kids. If adults are going through this it's one thing. Like he said he did it to himself. He had help from psychologists who thought they were doing the right thing. This is the insidiousness of the current thought. And there are many adults in this same circumstance. There are many de-teansitioning sites on the web of those who are going through this. It's one thing for adults to do this and take responsibility but it's another thing entirely to do this to kids who are depending on the adults in their lives to do the right thing and help them to make the right decision.

Now we have those who are de-transitioning who are warning against transitioning kids. We even have kids now who want to sue do to parents and doctors transitioning them.

Slow down is the message. Kids should not be transitioned.

Chloe Cole is suing her parents for transition her.

Are we going to learn or are we going to create a generation of kids who are angry and frustrated at society, parents, doctor's etc for creating a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

I am 100% on board with the idea of no surgical transitions for kids. Hormone blockers I would be okay ONLY after numerous psych assessments (not the "1" that Chloe had; no where near insufficient).

Do you know what would slow down the process a lot? Socialized medicare. IF you have FOR PROFIT medicare, why would they slow down? It makes it difficult for them to make money. IT has been said MANY times that for profit medicare is a blight that reduces NEEDED care and priorities the whims of those who can afford to pay.

Yet ANOTHER way the American Medi"care" system is a shambles.

It should be pointed out that the number of people "Detransitioning" is infintesimal compared to those happy with their transition.

I'm all for preventing gender reassignment surgery on kids. They should wait at least until age of consent.

I also think we need to watch out for pushy trans advocates who want to pressure kids to explore the idea of being trans, since kids can be very impressionable. However, educating kids on trans and teaching them to be tolerant of trans are good.

I doubt very much that socialized medicine would make any difference. These doctors and physicians would do the same things. It's just that the taxpayers would be paying for it instead of individuals or insurance companies. Our navy seal is a good example of it as well as the prison system that is paying for transitions now.

What's your evidence that it would slow down

And you are welcome to doubt it but I would mention that other people who otherwise agree with you (and I think you in another thread) have suggested that the folks "butchering children" are motivated by their own profit. I would agree with that, to an extent at least.

Oh none. It's just a logical opinion I hold. I am fully prepared to be shown that for profit health care has NOT affected the number of gender reassignment surgeries performed.

You can do that without talking to them about trans issues or trans education or that boys can be girls and girls can be boys.

Just teach them to be kind and have respect for everyone regardless. Some people have big noses, some people are overweight, some people are really skinny or have different color hair.

Just be kind to everyone.

The problem is we claim to have anti-bullying education, but totally fail on it's implementation. Kids are NOT held accountable for bullying people. Teachers don't hold them accountable. School administrators do not. Parents do not.

We need to focus more on bullying in general and not bullying in specific. Bullying is totally unacceptable not matter who the victim is.

I was bullied when I was young. My grandson was severely bullied last year. And the school did NOTHING even when they new about it and have anti-bullying policy.

You make an assumption that is unsupported. Doctors would still get paid under social medicine for trans surgeries and psychological evaluations. You think social medicine makes doctors less likely to get paid?
You say it's logical, but you have no evidence of it. Social medicine still pays for trans surgeries. The issue is like it always is in Canada the availability of doctors may be limited. You might have to wait and travel to get it done.

I agree. But the kids in my daughter's old school (a Christian school) classmates told the transgender kid that they should just die and they are not worthy of being alived. That kid, for 7 years AT THE SCHOOL has been told to "be kind to everyone". In church and hopefully, at home too. He's got the SAME message again and again.
And he manages to do it LITERALLY every other kid in class. So why can't he manage it for a trans kid too?

I agree with bullying as a systemic problem. Bullying has been a problem for ....maybe ever. I'm not sure if it would ever disappear. BUT, I do think we need to focus more on how to empower victims and bystanders to deal. Bullies exist; let's figure out as a society in how to deal with them.

Just as abortion used to be back alley (and will be again, probably) so desperate people will do desperate things. I know someone who got weight loss surgery in Mexico because of lack of insurance. Fortunately she is ok.

That school totally failed. This illustrates my point. Schools talk a good talk, but their walk is awful. They don't live up to their rhetoric.

School officials and teachers are totally to blame. Thise kids that bullied should have been disciplined and suspended.

Schools have easy options, in school suspension, suspension to name a couple.

Every kid and parent ought to be made to sign an anti-bullying pledge with a clear acceptance of the schools disciplinary action should the kid bully someone. That way the parent has no leg to stand on when they whine about how their kids bullying can affect their future.

Ingrained in that should also be the fact that first and second offenses will not be on the kids permanent record. But a third offense will. To bad for them if they didn't learn the first two times.

Thirdly, the policy should state that if the bullying is physical then the perpetrator will face criminal charges if the kid is old enough.

Yes I'm tough on this. Bullying in schools is totally unacceptable.

It should be pointed out that the number of people "Detransitioning" is infintesimal compared to those happy with their transition.

It is? How do you know that?

How do you know how many kids have transitioned and how many de-transition. How do you know that all of those who have not de-transitioned are happy? How many would like to de-transition, but can't or are finding to difficult to for any number of reasons?

With an 80% desistance rate I find it hard to believe.

I will help a little. Very little has been done to study this phenomenon of de-transitioning. Current estimates are around 10-13% have. There also have been surveys regarding why not more and they have given some reasons why it's difficult to do. It's a hard scary and expensive process.

Also no real long term studies have been done regarding teens in this area. No studies have been done regarding those who would like to, but can't or haven't.

For sure there are those who were and still are fine with it. But we also know that many who have also have suicidal tendencies that still persisted even after the transition.

This is NOT an easy fix. And it shouldn't be presented as such. Particularly to kids.

It's been claimed in other threads here that trans surgery is highly profitable for hospitals, which encourages them to push it on patients who might not need it. If the hospital doesn't have to worry about turning a profit and increasing revenue year-over-year, and doctors are getting paid the same regardless of the surgeries they perform, then that shouldn't be a concern. Of course the option will still exist, but there would be no reason to push it.

The trans people I know personally are, as far as I can tell, much happier for having transitioned (though I suppose it's always possible they could change their mind). However, they all transitioned as adults. I don't think *medical* transitioning for kids is a very good idea, especially in the current environment which seems to me to encourage confusion about one's gender and orientation.

I'm curious where the 80% statistic is coming from though.

It's a misleading statistic. Studies on desist rate generally cover people who have not yet medically transitioned - in other words, people still exploring their gender identity. So they go to a clinic for counseling or for a consult, and a large percentage either simply never return (which could mean that they're at another clinic) or realize that they aren't transgender and desist with counseling/treatment. In general, people who actually go through a medical transition do not later detransition - that rate is 10% or less, and in a majority of those cases, it was temporary due to social or financial reasons.

That makes sense and fits more with what I've observed.

That's actually a very valid point.

Of course, that would depend on certain cultural aspects of the government administering the program and where they decide to cut the costs at.

I could see it going one of two ways.

1) The way you mentioned, where removing the "for profit" aspect would disincentivize practitioners from doing things that are unnecessary just for money
...or...
2) Skipping psych assessment #'s 2-10 to cut the costs

The former would be beneficial...the latter could create some problems

But that's WHY you shouldn't find it hard to believe. The supports in place manage to help those people explore whether this is REALLY where they are understanding themselves. The fact that 80% of the people decide THEN to stop the process is an indicator that a lot of those people who would regret transitioning are "weeded out" in time. That would ALSO indicate more happiness with the ultimately transitioning

That's just not shown to be true. Take a look at Canada. Hospitals and doctors still get paid just by the taxpayers. They get money to do the transitioning so why would they stop? The more they do the more they make from the taxpayers. What happens is typically is there are fewer doctors available to perform these surgeries and people will have to wait until one is available and may have to travel. There is still money to be made at this. It's just not made the same way. The more patients they have in social medicine the more money they get from the taxpayer.

The desistance rate are those that didn't go through drugs and surgeries to fulfill their transition. Studies show that most kids desist if not pumped full of drugs or if they did not get any surgeries. Those that do take the drugs and get surgeries don't desist at the same rate. That tells us that the drugs and surgeries are actually preventing kids for desisting cause it's too late. It tells us that those same kids would most likely desist if not given the drugs or surgeries.
