Maricopa County Voting Centers Plagued with Tabulation Errors on Election Day Affected Areas Averaging Well Over 300 Percent More Republicans Than Dem

Voters encountered problems casting their ballots at 70 of the 223 vote centers in Maricopa County on Election Day, November 8, 2022, resulting in long lines and concerns that ballots ended up not tabulated or “misread,” and commingled with ballots that had already been tabulated. Averaged together, the problems occurred in areas where Election Day voting was more than 300 percent Republican versus Democrat. Of those 70 precincts affected, 59 were in heavily Republican-voting areas, and two were Republican-leaning but not heavily, with only nine from Democrat-leaning or solidly Democrat areas.

Arizona Corporation Commissioner Jim O’Connor, who has led the effort to stop the use of electronic voting machine tabulators, said that county officials must resign due to the problems.

I pretty much don’t care about what folks in other states do with the same issue.

The Corporation Commission has no authority or involvement with Arizona elections.

Hopefully, the op will refrain from posting false information regarding elections in my home state....

How many of the total precincts are Democrat-leaning or solidly democrat?

There was a technical issue. Some of the printers were were not printing dark enough. People were still able to vote and have their ballots counted. Not exactly a major issue except to people who jump on every problem as proof of fraud.

There were people that did not vote, not everyone could wait for hours or travel to a different site, why are you claiming "people were still able to vote?"

Stories I read said no one was not allowed to vote. How many hours was the average wait? Something like .25?

One of the reasons Republicans were more affected was because the Democrats tended to vote early while the Republican strategy, for some reason, was to wait until late on the last day.

And just like that long wait times and lack of voting locations went from something people just have to deal with if they want to vote to unacceptable conditions.

Not everyone can wait in line for more than three hours. What if you have to pick up little children from daycare of school? Or what if you would get fired from you job in the high Biden inflationary environment? Katie Hobbs failed to see the printers were certified, and she used discontinued printers without enough ink in Republican areas. Also the ballots used would not fit the tabulation machines in a number of cases.

Of course the thread title means nothing if the vast majority of Arizona "voting areas" lean republican or are deep red. Apparently some folks have a hard time understanding that many Republicans voted for Democrats.....just as they did in 2020. That's what happens when you run election deniers....

On Election Day, the Republican Party had no such evidence for the judge....who refused to extend voting by two hours as requested by the Republican Party.

I don't know how they were supposed to track down all of the voters who left or went to another location only to be told they had already voted. Obviously not everyone was going to wait more then three hours, but the judge, who had been appointed by a Democrat governor, allowed the voter suppression to take place. As a result there may have to be another election.

I'm sure you can offer endless sencarios that may have happened. In this case. ...the judge ruled on the evidence, or lack thereof, as he noted in his ruling.

It's a preference of most Republican voters, not a deliberate strategy. That's due to distrust of early voting, and goes back to the start of early voting itself. The fear revolves around the security of the votes and possibility of tampering. Voting fraud and tampering has happened in the past (an old classmate did time for voter fraud), and questions of security is more about questions of those in charge of the ballots knowing what they're doing. You can say those fears are unwarranted and such, and that's cool. Still, those fears exist.

I've early voted before, usually when I thought I wouldn't be able to do so on election day, and where I've voted I didn't notice any irregularities in tabulation. If I wanted to take the time and waste a vote, I could write-in someone for one of the elections and see if a vote was tabulated for that person, but I haven't done so. When I do vote on election day, I like to be there when the polls open.

A bit of Arizona context. Voting early by mail has been in place for nearly 30 years (I have lived here for 29 years). Until 2020,a vast majority Republicans, Democrats and Independents voted by mail without any issues or candidates casting doubt on the results. Indeed it continues to be very popular across the political spectrum. In the 2022 primary, some Republican candidates were telling voters to wait until Election Day to vote. Many did so, with approximately 275,000 "early" mail-in ballots dropped off on Election Day - an amount that was 100,000 more than 2020 (for Maricopa County). Eventually, we may see some data breaking down the Election Day drop off ballots by party...but I suspect we'll see a jump in the number of GOP voters who waited to drop off their ballot (we already have evidence of that as Republican candidates closed the gap as those ballots were counted in the days following the election).

Interesting. We've had some absentee ballots here for years, but they don't seem all that popular. Things had already tightened up about it prior to 2020. Given an incident of those for a local candidate "helping" absentee voters to fill out their ballots, that's understandable. I don't have any numbers to stand on, but locally it seems early voting is more popular than absentee ballots.

No surprise here! The Republican Party has been calling foul on any election it believes they should have won. My guess is that a lot of Republican voters are tired of this petulance. They have changed their minds - and their votes.

If it comes to a court decision there are those who will - once again - cry foul when no evidence of systematic fraud is produced.
