Although the debates are not perfect, in the last set of debate rounds there were moderators from Fox News as well as NBC.
Stump speeches, rallies, television commercials are not the best way to learn about candidates because they control the narrative--or in the case of commercials, whoever is funding the commercial controls the narrative.
Are we interested in learning the truth, or opinion?
I remember a television commercial from a senatorial race several years ago in which the challenger (now the incumbent) said, "Senator X wants to destroy your Medicare." He made that allegation because Medicare reimbursements had been frozen or slightly reduced for providers--without any reduction in benefits to seniors or the disabled.
In the meantime, as a Congressman, the challenger had voted for far more extreme and harmful cuts to Medicare--raising the Medicare age to 67, for example.
If you think that doesn't matter, let me introduce you to my friend's mother, who waited in agony for three years until she was 65 to get a hip replacement, because she could never have afforded it otherwise. Could she have lasted till 67? The Congressman didn't care...but the former incumbent did.
