Heard taxes weren't due til May this year, postponed bc of Covid. So Maybe we'll have to wait a couple weeks after May.

I heard that everyone who was getting a check refund that it's taking longer than normal. I know my mom e-filed and she got her refunded in like 2-3 weeks.

Not sure if you receive the refund in the mail, though I could see that being possible depending on the situation. I mailed mine in, though they sent it back with a qualification about self employed income (which I technically made, though probably not this year), I think they'd be putting it direct deposit in my bank account, but not sure exactly, that's just been the tendency when I have gotten a refund at all

I e-filed my federal return the first week in March. The Where's My Refund site says it's still processing.

But I know there's a complication. About 3 weeks after filing, I got an amended 1099 statement from my brokerage firm. It documented additional dividends and capital gains earned on one of my accounts. Of which I was unaware and obviously did not report. So in April I filed a 1040-X amended return. Which had to be sent by mail. (Apparently, only tax professionals have the software to e-file amended returns.) It wasn't as bad as it could have been. I'm still due a refund, but reduced by several hundred dollars.

I had to do a 1040-X a couple years ago for the same reason. Pain in the behind!

This is the first year since I moved to the U.S. that I owed taxes come tax day. (Unfortunately due to the passing of my wife's last parent) Nevertheless, it only took the IRS a week to deduct the money from our bank account. But I use the Free-fillable form service and every year in the past it has taken less than 10 days to get refunds. Before that service was available, the refund usually took about two months from mailed forms.
