Get along with each other, and forgive each other.
If someone does wrong to you,
forgive that person because the Lord forgave you
.”
Colossians 3:13

I understand that forgiving someone who horribly wronged you is not easy,
especially if they are not even sorry for what they did.
But Jesus makes it clear that you have no real option.
You MUST forgive if you want God's forgiveness.

MUCH easier said than done, but it IS worth it! The forgiveness that has taken place so far has already taken such heavy burdens off my chest. There is still more to forgive, though. It is a process and will have to forgive every time it comes to mind.

Make forgiveness habit through Mr. Miyagi's 'wax on, wax off' technique. Eventually, it becomes second nature and can be casually done without negative feelings. Trust me, I am a Canadian who says, "sorry" because it is our national custom.

Forgive as God forgave you. Otherwise, it is only hypocrisy.

We are all God's creation. So whenever someone compliments us,
that is an awareness by others that we are reflecting Him by what we say and do.

Unless you can back that up with Scripture, please give God the glory. These come to mind whenever I receive compliments for participating in The Great Commission:

18 The next day the soldiers were very upset. They wondered what had happened to Peter. 19 Herod looked everywhere for Peter but could not find him. So he questioned the guards and ordered that they be killed.

The Death of Herod Agrippa
Later Herod moved from Judea and went to the city of Caesarea, where he stayed for a while. 20 Herod was very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon. But the people of those cities all came in a group to Herod. They were able to get Blastus, the king’s personal servant, on their side. They asked Herod for peace because their country got its food from his country.

21 On a chosen day Herod put on his royal robes. He sat on his throne and made a speech to the people. 22 They shouted, “This is the voice of a god, not a man!” 23 Herod did not give the glory to God. So an angel of the Lord caused him to become sick. He was eaten by worms and died.

24 God’s message continued to spread and reach more and more people.

You Are Like Salt and Light
13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its salty taste, it cannot be made salty again. It is good for nothing. It must be thrown out for people to walk on.

14 “You are the light that gives light to the world. A city that is built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 And people don’t hide a light under a bowl. They put the light on a lampstand. Then the light shines for all the people in the house. 16 In the same way, you should be a light for other people. Live so that they will see the good things you do. Live so that they will praise your Father in heaven.

8 “I am the Lord. That is my name.
I will not give my glory to another.
I will not let idols take the praise that should be mine.

9 The things I said would happen have happened.
And now I tell you about new things.
Before those things happen,
I tell you about them.”

I think forgiveness is easy to say, harder to really mean, and personally I wouldn't want to say anything I didn't mean, can you feel forgiveness when your ears are still ringing from being beaten over the head and having a broken jaw, I'd say no from personal experience, especially when there was no acknowledgment from the perpetrator, but once the anger has subsided and with a Christian outlook I can say it is not only possible, but a responsibility to yourself and the perpetrator, when you see the perpetrator face the terror of death, and you have a pretty good idea they are not going to heaven, knowing that they face a punishment a 1000 times worse than anything they I inflicted on you, it's time to pray for their soul.
The death of my father highlighted whether my sins would be forgiven on the day of judgement! It's sobering stuff!

Your personal experiences are definitely "sobering stuff". But it appears that you are able to have an eternal view of life. My father died at age 54. He was a "Catholic", but I fear that his relationship with the risen Christ did not exist. Sad...very sad.
May our loving, eternal Father have mercy on your father and mine...and on us as well.
