I went to sunday mass for the first time since Ash Wednesday this morning. It was nice, but one of the other parishioners kept on coughing throughout the entire mass.

I wasnt the only one to notice this. She sat far from us so i guess we're rather safe. We decided to leave at communion as it felt a bit unsafe to stay in the church.

To be honest, i think im going to go to weekday mass from now on. Todays episode triggered some anxiety and bad vibes. I just cant wrap my head around the fact that some people decides to show up despite having such symptoms. The carelessness of some people...!

Well, i guess im posting this just to air some frustration. I felt like asking her to leave, but i figured that it wasnt any of my business to do so.
I hope that the priest spoke to her after mass. Thing like these may cause another outbreak in Norway!

She probably has post nasal drip. I get spring allergies, maybe she does too. Post nasal drip can drive me nuts and I've been fighting with it for weeks now. If I had Covid I'd be dead by now lol ! We just got rid of juniper pollen, now it's oak. Maple and ash have been long running this year. Pine will come out soon but with that my hand skin breaks out..

A cough doesnt mean just Covid19.

Trust in Jesus.

This was not just some cough, it sounded like something serious. The fact that im paying attention to things like these doesnt mean i dont trust in the Lord. If I die, I die.
I just felt a tad angry at her for going to mass despite this serious cough of hers.

Id never go if I had any symptoms. I didnt wear a mask btw, but i sure will the next time I'm in church.

Well in these times anyone that has any consideration for their fellow man should stay home if they have a cough.

Someone should have asked her to leave.
It ain't easy -- just the times we live in.

If you don't have a clue
to home with you.

Agreed. I have a chronic cough in the morning until I take a hot shower. It's intermittent through the day.

I'm glad you got to go to mass. I can't do that here. They are talking about opening up soon though with about a third of the seating. For myself, now at high risk of complications, I don't know that I can go back until they have a vaccine. Maybe a small daily mass somewhere. After my accident I'm a bit of a mess.

I was headed to the store the other day and on the way I started into a coughing and sneezing jag, I think my nasal spray was kicking in or else I drove through a pocket of pollen. When I pulled into the parking lot it stopped and I put on my mask and entered the store but now my nose was wanting to run. Not cute inside the mask !! I didn't dare sniff, some old guy got punched out for sneezing in an herb store I read !! Fortunately I only needed a few items. I guess I'm paranoid of paranoid people. The virus doesn't bother me but you never know what panicky paranoid people will do. What's really odd is I have this feeling masks aren't going away. This bug has triggered hypochondriac- ism ( yes I know that's not a word but it's my term for a new norm). Around here we passed the peak of corona two weeks ago, we have 1/3 the cases now as then and now they make masks mandatory in stores. The deep gets deeper when in reality things are more shallow. Nothing is real anymore. We have just over 1000 cases in 2100 sq miles, the least cases in the entire state besides the far western reaches !!! But I feel I shouldn't blow my nose in public.

Masks will probably stay around even after the pandemic is over in some places. Others they won't. In Europe its not likely that they'll stick around. That being said i believe we're done shaking hands for quite some time. No way I'll touch a strangers hand again. It's something we should avoid all together.

In Europe its reported that asians are being assaulted on the subways etc. It even happened in Oslo which is rather unfortunate. I understand the resentment towards China, but beating up innocent people is wrong nevertheless.

Well, this situation brings out the worst in people.

Mass is resuming near me. The obligation has not been reimposed tho. For obvious reasons, I imagine.

I feel weird about going to Mass, tbh. My wife is pregnant and I don't want to take any unnecessary risks. All it takes is for one person to be careless and next thing you know, I'm bringing COVID home with me. No thanks.

This is especially frustrating as my parish had only recently begun offering the TLM before the lockdown happened and I'd been looking forward to going to that for a long time.

I do understand your concern, but just maybe if it was serious this might have been her last chance to go to mass.

I don't know the configuration of your parish church, but if there was a choir loft located up and away from the rest of the parishioners, that might have been a good, safe place for her to observe the mass and yet still feel like she was a part of what was happening.

Just a thought.
