And you dare not drop it and mess up the stack or you start all over again.

Still remember as a kid in the 80's, going to the dime store to buy a game books where you typed the code into DOS to play. If you were lucky, you had enough floppies to save the game. My first and favorite was space quest. 85- 86?

They don't have any yet. They're just are going to slap an "Space Force" patch on the existing USAF uniform for a while until they figure it out.

Such a research committee should only set the taxpayers back around $50-$100 million in tax dollars.

Probably about then....don't know. I was a mom by then and working full time. No time for games. We did have a Commodore 64 around then.

As others have pointed out, since about 1990 the military has been using standardized utility uniforms across the various branches, in an effort to lower costs. Most of the time, for our military, the camo is superfluous -- as people walking around a base in the US (or even most overseas bases in non-combat countries) don't need any type of camouflage. This obviously includes Space Force, where almost all of the jobs will be on Earth in buildings.

Of course, this doesn't stop each branch from having their own dress uniforms -- and it will be interesting to see what Space Force dress uniforms will look like -- assuming at some point they will quit using the Air Force dress uniform and develop their own. They'll likely also have their own unique "special" uniforms, such as space suits, etc; much as flight crews have special uniforms while flying, etc.

In the 80's my dad was stationed as a squadron commander in Europe. The Cold War was still a thing. Though he was an accountant, he did participate in combat exercises, including wearing M81 woodland BDU's (battle dress uniform) and even MOPP chemical-warfare gear. If the Soviets invaded, they weren't necessarily going to care if he was an accountant or not.

Well, this is a new reality. Not just a military branch. This is our first attempt at actually traveling in space beyond our own moon. Not talk, but actualy figuring out the hows and whats. This is the founding of what is to come. Both Russia and China have similar programs. So does India. I believe this is the 21st centuries Space Race. Who can land on Mars first? Who can inhabit a planet? Etc.....

Naturally, comes the notion of defending said expeditions and quite possibly sovereign claims.

Actually the Space Force has nothing to do with manned space exploration. That's still NASA's responsibility, even though it has a tiny budget compared to what it was when they put a man on the moon.

Last I heard from Trump is he is letting private corporations fund their own programs at NASA facilities. Virgin, Space x..... among others. I will recheck that.

It is also the USAF that is researching means of reaching further planets in more timely manners, and DARPA is researching unmanned semi/fully autonomous droids (or what have you) to assist humans or even explore alone. Trump has even spoken of a 'launching pad' on the moon. Less gravity to overcome, no atmosphere. Also, the darkside of the moon is always facing away from earth. It has been speculated that the moons geosynchronous orbit could provide an open window to continual space traffic almost like an airport. Where shuttles and craft can come and go at (regulated) will. An FAA type flight control scenario comes to mind.

We have no idea what this will entail defensively speaking. Hence the need to create the program responsible for defense as this all unfolds. But exploration is on the Space Force books. Just like the military armadas of old exploring the seas.

I spent about 4 years in Germany in the 80s; I typically wore Air Force blues, though we did have the odd day where fatigues was the uniform of the day. It would have made no difference for me which uniform I wore, the Russians wouldn't have cared what uniform I wore if they captured the base.

More than anyone realizes, I suspect. It fits in perfectly with the administration's philosophy.

In fact, I just finished a book that analyzed Star Wars in light of actual military strategy, and, in criticizing the Empire, cited this gem, from Army Leadership

Toxic leadership is a combination of self-centered attitudes, motivations, and behaviors that have adverse effects on subordinates, the organization, and mission performance. This leader lacks concern for others and the climate of the organization, which leads to short- and long-term negative effects. The toxic leader operates with an inflated sense of self-worth and from acute self-interest. Toxic leaders consistently use dysfunctional behaviors to deceive, intimidate, coerce, or unfairly punish others to get what they want for themselves. The negative leader completes short-term requirements by operating at the bottom of the continuum of commitment, where followers respond to the positional power of their leader to fulfill requests. This may achieve results in the short term, but ignores the other leader competency categories of leads and develops. Prolonged use of negative leadership to influence followers undermines the followers’ will, initiative, and potential and destroys unit morale.

Hmmm.... sound like someone we all know?

The army wears camo because they are on land, going through jungle and trees.

There isn't a jungle or trees in space. ^_^

Never know when it might be necessary to fight the Ewoks on the forest moon of Endor.

The first Space Force uniforms have reached the Pentagon, and people are making fun of the camouflage print

"Space Force" trended on Twitter after the Department of Defense debuted the new uniforms, with many tweets poking fun at the camouflage print. Some users questioned why a black print wasn't chosen, given the environment that space troops would theoretically be fighting in.

I can understand using camo to keep costs down.

Still....it struck me as funny.

^_^^_^ It is better than this:
