The first Space Force uniforms have reached the Pentagon, and people are making fun of the camouflage print

"Space Force" trended on Twitter after the Department of Defense debuted the new uniforms, with many tweets poking fun at the camouflage print. Some users questioned why a black print wasn't chosen, given the environment that space troops would theoretically be fighting in.

I didn't know there was so much vegetation in space.

The excuse was that they are using uniforms that the personnel already have and thus it saves money, which raises the question of why the Air Force wears camo. But even navy sailors wear camo on ships--"seaflage" is what they call it. Really, it's just a fad and has nothing to do with operational necessity except for troops actual in the field.

Doesn't look much different from the camo worn by the army.

If the decision had been to dress the members of the new force like 'space cadets' from some movie, that would have brought ridicule from the usual critics. So because the camo instead is in line with the other services (the navy included; see link below), it brings ridicule for not looking like something Mister Spock might wear.

The army wears camo because they are on land, going through jungle and trees.

There isn't a jungle or trees in space. ^_^

Man, I was hoping for space helmets, laser pistols and inertial dampeners......how disappointing.
Well, off white at least. Or all black.

The navy wears almost identical camo. Why shouldn't it be blue and feature waves?

That's the logic that was used by people poking fun at the camo to be worn by the space force.

As the article mentioned, the space force will, for the near future, be operating almost totally on Earth where, yes, there are trees.

Of course, standardization among the services is the policy of the government now, which is why you rarely see a sailor suit or Marine red and blue anymore. It's supposed to be economical.

The navy used to make sense with theirs when it was the blueberry one:

Not sure why they switched to a green and black

No, camo for the Space Force is silly, but it's still better than going into outer space in your pajamas.
