• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I think I'm starting to understand now
I just always thought you'd had to be married by the law or church to be actually married and 2 people being together engaging in sexual intercourse was a sin even if they loved each other and planned to be together for their lives
yes having sex before marriage, living together before marriage is sin. However if you are eloped it is not sin, because now you are in covenant marriage. Even if you didn't have a wedding, there was an official there that witnessed the eloping. Also in many states eloping means you can get a marriage certificate. So check your state laws. But make it official. You don't have to have an expensive wedding, but I would at least get the license if it's practical to do so. It's not required in God's eyes, but that way you both are sole heirs of each other, and it's official for insurance reasons etc.

Hello :)
I'm having some anxiety about eloping with my wife,we eloped last Friday
However I'm having anxiety about if it's true in god's eyes
I read that legal marriage counts to god however I'm not sure if the government here counts because in Darwin Australia we have same sex marriage
I read that as long as the government follows god's greater laws it's fine
Is my marriage still good in god's eyes?
Was it just the two of you?

A wedding is a public ceremony to announce your marriage, but it is not required.
I disagree respectfully. There needs to be witnesses and accountability. The wedding is part of this process.

Only reason I thought it wasn't valid was because the government who witnessed it is the same government that allowed same sex marriage

We did tell people about the elope and had parents we still talk to give us their blessing
Ok more clarity. SO your parents have not given their blessings?

That is two different things. The Government sees you as legally married because you had your licence, you had witnesses and signed the paperwork. God sees you as married if you are one man and one woman who got legally married in front of witnesses and made vows to each other. It's those going against God law for marriage who are not married in God's sight.

So even if the government is the one who married us does same sex marriages it's still ok in god's eyes?
Like I guess to put it simple
Someone is able to legally marry people and they marry you and your partner but on the side they also marry homosexual people is the marriage between the man and women till counted in god's eyes?
Forgive me my anxiety has been pushing me about it once I read
only exception is in cases that submission to authority requires us to disobey the greater law of God (Acts 4:19-20, 5:27-29).

Oooh I see even if the magistrate says the words and such?

Sure, the celebrant will say something that affirms that you are now married; but that's not what makes the marriage.

Thank you very much :) I had huge anxiety about the government not being considered by god since they also do same sex marriage but yeah I guess if their only part of witnesses doesn't really matter
Thanks very much for the information and patience
