Nobody likes unvarnished truth. That's why there's so little of it. Everything is about making others feel good. And that's all the truth people want. Especially Christians.

I don’t know the specifics about that but I do know that he didn’t have to do anything at all. So I still think he deserves credit for standing up for the slaves and fighting for their freedom.

He thought he needed to do it to end the war to keep the union together. Doesn’t diminish the outcome but he was not all in for abolition.

I think he wasn't big for abolition. And I don't know if he did it for the sake of the union. I see it more as retaliation for the secession of the south.
