Since the weather is getting hotter and we are having an abundance of rain, the mosquitoes are really proliferating . I just wondered if we will be bothered with them in the millennium. What about other pesky bugs like gnats, etc?

Haha I wouldn't answer that question (millennium).

But I used to joke that bugs (except maybe butterflies) were a consequence of the fall and wouldn't exist in the age to come (what a lot of people mean when they say "heaven").

Many insects are beautiful -- even mosquitos, in their own way, as long as they're not biting me -- so I don't know that I want to see them disappear altogether. Maybe if, as Isaiah says, the lion will eat straw like the ox, mosquitos can also find something else to eat in the life to come.

More whimsically, I'm also reminded of C. S. Lewis' comment, when the question of animals in the afterlife was raised, that a heaven for mosquitos and a hell for humans could easily be made to coexist. ;)

The millennium does not begin until the return of Christ. When He returns the 1st resurrection happens and all the saved are taken to the heavenly kingdom for the 1,000 years ... bible does not ever state of any of earths "creatures" being in the heavenly realms.

After the 2nd resurrection (1,000 years later) and the completion of those events the Lord will be everything new .... and there will be us and creatures on earth with the Lord and all will be in perfect harmony ... ie .... we won't be "bugged" by bugs etc. ;o)

Life during the Millennium will be much the same as what we experience now.
The big difference is there will be no deceiver or Satanic temptations to lead us astray. Jesus will be a benevolent King and all will live in peace and prosperity.
There is no scripture that says anyone will be taken to heaven. Only after the Millennium, will God and therefore heaven, come down to us.

So yes, Handmaid; bring your flyswatter! BUT just brush those pesky insects away, don't kill them; they all have a place in God's perfect Creation.

I have often thought the same that the bugs would not survive the tribulation. LOL ^_^

"There is no scripture that says anyone will be taken to heaven."

2 Kings 2:1

And it came about when the LORD was about to take up Elijah by a whirlwind to heaven, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.

2 Kings 2:11

As they were going along and talking, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire and horses of fire which separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind to heaven.

2 Timothy 4:18

The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed, and will bring me safely to His heavenly kingdom; to Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

1 Peter 1:4

to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,

Hebrews 11:16

But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; for He has prepared a city for them.

Mark 12:25

"For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.

2 Corinthians 5:1

For we know that if the earthly tent which is our house is torn down, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

2 Corinthians 5:2

For indeed in this house we groan, longing to be clothed with our dwelling from heaven,

Colossians 1:5

because of the hope laid up for you in heaven, of which you previously heard in the word of truth, the gospel

Revelation 11:12

And they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, "Come up here " Then they went up into heaven in the cloud, and their enemies watched them.

Revelation 19:1

After these things I heard something like a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, "Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God;

2 Corinthians 12:2

I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago--whether in the body I do not know, or out of the body I do not know, God knows--such a man was caught up to the third heaven.

2 Corinthians 12:4

was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which a man is not permitted to speak.

Luke 23:43

And He said to him, "Truly I say to you today you shall be with Me in Paradise."

The first resurrection (of the saved) happens when Jesus returns and all are taken to heaven for the 1,000 years.

There will be sin on earth until Satan is destroyed and that does not happen until after the 2nd resurrection (of the condemned).

The New Jerusalem, Gods Kingdom on earth is established after all has been destroyed and He makes everything new.

Revelation 21

1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

"And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled ..." Rev. 20:1-3
Sin and evil is eradicated from the planet during this time. Temptations are no where to be found. Paradise reborn with long life as in the Garden.
The distortion of the genetic codes that altered (cursed) the animal kingdom, is not there. Fear that animals have, gone. Harmony means that nothing in the environment can harm you. So mosquitos, roaches, rats and all sorts of vermin, bacteria, viruses, causes of disease, poisonous snakes, great white sharks or other deadly sea or land creatures and gone. Anything that can harm you in the slightest way will be removed. I suppose those creatures may exist but with a different purpose as will lions, and bears, wolves or crocs programmed with instincts in harmony with man and each other.

I stand by my statement; The only exceptions were Elijah and Enoch.
It is the 'rapture to heaven' of the church in the last days theory, that I refute.
None of your scriptures actually say that God will take His Church to heaven, you must just assume that.

John 13:36
"Lord, where are You going?" Simon Peter asked. Jesus answered, "Where I am going, you cannot follow Me now, but you will follow later."

John 14

1Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

Spoken directly to Peter, who was also crucified later. Proved by John 13:37-38

John 14:1-3 is touted by those who desire to go and live in heaven, while things get a bit tough on earth. Unfortunately for them, this scripture does not say that will happen.
It is in fact; a prophecy about His Return and the eventual New Jerusalem that will come to the earth after the Millennium.

The 'rapture to heaven' idea is a false teaching and it contradicts many scriptures that DO say what God requires of us during the time before the Return of Jesus, then when He does Return, those who have kept their faith and trust in God, will become priests and co-rulers for the Millennium. Revelation 5:10

Sorry Handmaid; another thread diversion!
But a very important one, as those who have been deceived, as Jesus said would happen, Matthew 24:4, need to know the truth.
At least to know there are people who reject the 'rapture' and who show there is an alternative, that will lead to great rewards for those who stand firm in their faith.

If, I am understanding you correctly, you believe when Jesus returns the first resurrection happens and that the 1,000 years (the saved) will reign with Him on earth ???

2nd Thessalonians 2

1 Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to Him ...

8And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will slay with the breath of His mouth and annihilate by the majesty of His arrival.

All the living wicked living at the time (including the son of perdition/lawless one) at the time of His coming are destroyed.

Revelation 19

Defeat of the Beast and False Prophet

17Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and he cried out in a loud voice to all the birds flying overhead, “Come, gather together for the great supper of God, 18so that you may eat the flesh of kings and commanders and mighty men, of horses and riders, of all men slave and free, small and great.”

19Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies assembled to wage war against the One seated on the horse, and against His army. 20But the beast was captured along with the false prophet, who on its behalf had performed signs deceiving those who had the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. Both the beast and the false prophet were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. 21And the rest were killed with the sword that proceeded from the mouth of the One seated on the horse.

And all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh.

There is no human left on earth after Jesus returns, the 1,000 year reign is in heaven.

Revelation 20:4

Then I saw the thrones, and those seated on them had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or its image, and had not received its mark on their foreheads or hands. And they came to life (1st resurrection) and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.

"The rapture"

There is not a "secret rapture". All go through the great tribulation until the return of Jesus. When He returns the first resurrection occurs and all the saved are with Him from then on out.

1st Thessalonians 4

The Return of the Lord

13Brothers, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who are without hope. 14For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we also believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him.

15By the word of the Lord, we declare to you that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who have fallen asleep. 16For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a loud command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will be the first to rise. 17After that, we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord.

18Therefore encourage one another with these words.

Yes.
It will be only the martyrs killed during the Great Trib, the final 3 1/2 years; who will be raised back to life by Jesus at His Return. Revelation 20:4
The faithful Christians, who survive until then, will be gathered, Matthew 24:30-31, 2 Thess 4:17, and will also be His priests and co-rulers. Revelation 5:10, ON EARTH.

We CAN surely encourage each other with those Words!
