Yes it would be. You definitely don't want that hole left there. What I meant is that it's better to take good care of your teeth so that you don't need the fillings in the first place, although obviously that's too late for me.
Thanks. I'm sure it will. From what I've read on the Internet (which can be a dangerous thing!) replacing a lost filling is a fairly routine procedure and there shouldn't be any problems provided it's not left for too long, and I'm definitely not going to do that.
It's not causing me any pain, so that seems like a good sign, although I am trying to avoid eating with that side of my both in order to minimise the food particles that go onto that tooth, which isn't necessarily that easy. Especially since it's on the right side and being right handed means that my natural instinct is to put food into my mouth on that side.
Fillings can usually last for a long time though. But yours came off after like 5-6 years?
