Right-wing provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos has officially been banned from Australia, following the sudden cancellation of his November tour in the country.

A letter sent to Yiannopoulos from Australian immigration officials prior to Wednesday's decision reportedly noted that they have a right to prevent someone from entering the country who could potentially "Incite discord in the Australian community or in a segment of that community."

How do you think it is good that someone is banned from a country because he says "mean things"?

Lol, David, if Australia banned all folks solely on account of them saying "mean things" they'd ban just about everybody, but that's not what has happened here with Milo. It's an exceptional step taken on account of his exceptionally poor conduct.

Australians are not thin skinned. But Yannopolous is a powder keg of discord and a terrorist with words. It would be wise to refuse to give him a visa.

Then they would ban everyone for poor conduct.

He is gay and shame on Australia for banning a gay man.

Not really feeling that we are missing out on anything, on this one. Last time he was here there were riots and a $50,000 police security bill (which I understand was never paid by promoters).

What value, what enrichment, was Mr. Yiannopoulos going to add to our public discourse? I see his topic was to be, "How to save Australia;" I'd have to ask what he thinks we need saving from, and how his views could possibly be a positive contribution (let's just say I'm skeptical). And aside from that, most Australians would consider an American giving such a talk here to be the height of arrogance!

Nope. What do you think exceptional means, David? It's why I wrote exceptionally poor conduct.

Now, it's not surprising that some folks want to dishonestly act as though it's on account of Milo being gay that he's been banned. That's just pitifully ignorant, shamefully false to state, and defies basic reasoning & evidence. I am embarrassed for those who make that claim. It's on account of his actions that lead to the ban, not his sexual orientation.

Australia also banned anti-vaxxers on account of their posing exceptional risks to the public, & not on account of their sexual orientation or anything else but their actions.

I wish we could keep him out of the US.

I guess I'm out of touch, but who is Milo? And what has he done?

Well David, there's folks who don't think anti-vaxxers are dangerous. Would jump up & down, hoot & holler have themselves a loud, stupid tantrum about Australia banning them just like they banned Milo, mock it. It's extraordinarily rare for Australia to ban anybody. It is only done in the most exceptional of circumstances. The article in the OP as well as posts from folks from Australia have explained that it's not just about what Milo has said or that he's a meanie. As with the anti-vaxxers, Milo's actions have lead to tangible harm. Not just annoyance or feelings, but monetary costs.

Again I honestly think it's just pitiful that anybody would have the audacity & the ignorance to claim that Milo is banned for being a gay man instead of on account of his conduct, something he has control over. But yeah, the things you hear, lol, smh.

Like, this is so homophobic! I cant believe a gay man has been banned from an entire continent in the CURRENT YEAR! # LiterallyShaking

Claiming something is one thing actually doing it is something else, politicians/governments are especially guilty of this.
