They broke the law. It’s a crime. They should be prosecuted under the law the same as any other criminal.

If the law requires that the injured party bring the charges then the law is being respected in this case. Why burden an already overloaded judicial system with something that has already been resolved to the satisfaction of those that were harmed?

This scripture comes to mind.

1 Corinthians 6 Does any one of you, when he has a [a]case against his neighbor, dare to go to law before the unrighteous and not before the saints? 2 Or do you not know that the [c]saints will judge the world? If the world is judged by you, are you not competent to [d]constitute the smallest law courts? 3 Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more matters of this life? 4 So if you have law courts dealing with matters of this life, [e]do you appoint them as judges who are of no account in the church? 5 I say this to your shame. Is it so, that there is not among you one wise man who will be able to decide between his brethren, 6 but brother goes to law with brother, and that before unbelievers?

7 Actually, then, it is already a defeat for you, that you have lawsuits with one another. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be defrauded? 8 On the contrary, you yourselves wrong and defraud. You do this even to your brethren.

I agree. Just because they're nuns doesn't excuse from the fact that they stole money. If I stole money from someone I'd be sent to jail too just like any other criminal would so why are these nuns not in jail? They got caught stealing from the church so they should be prosecuted. Just ridiculous.

It does have some comedy value though. Never forget the human factor, it plays a part in legal decisions too I think.

The only reason its "funny" is because they refuse to prosecute these people just because they're nuns. Its kinda like catholic priests who rape little boys. The Catholic church didn't really start cracking down on that until a few years ago. I mean the problem went on for years and years. Yet if I touched a boy I would instantly go to prison. So our legal system is just funny.

Ok, fair point. I just can't help laughing at the idea of 2 nuns hightailing it to Las Vegas with a bag of stolen cash.

Yeah that's semi funny I guess. That almost reminds me of this dude who stole a checkbook from his girlfriends mom and wrote like a trillion dollar check or something like that and then he tried to cash it at a bank. He apparently was high at the time. Lol idiot. It happened like 10 years ago. I tried googling for it but I couldn't find it.

What about that scripture i posted? see here: Two nuns allegedly stole $500,000 for trips to Las Vegas, but the church doesn’t want to prosecute

I dont think that theft is the same as molestation. Theft can be forgiven easily but molestation is more serious. The Church can forgive theft but molestation cannot be swpt under the rug, so says the law of the land and common sense.

If I rob a Casino for half a million dollars should I get off on the crime or should I do jail time? Why should the Nuns get off scot free when they committed a very serious crime. They need to go to court and do jail time. Several years at least in a state penitentiary. Half a million dollars is a lot of money to steal.

Do you have any evidence to show that the incidence of homosexual sexual abuse of children is similar in other denominations?

I certainly accept that idea that sexual abuse is at similar rates, and perhaps even heterosexual sexual abuse of children.

Or non-Catholic ministers who do the same. Don't think for a second that it's less prevelant in your denomination. It's not, and it's much easier to hide it there.

actually thats not true. if a person steals from "Me" i should have the right to prosocute but for justice to be served i should also have the right to forgive.

You could start here.

The fact that you specifically mentioned Catholic ministers rather than ministers in general can reasonably taken as meaning that you believe that Catholic ministers are more likely to do it than non-Catholic, and that the Catholic Church is more likely to try to bury it than other denominations. I suggest that you have no real evidence for that, and invite you to prove it before singling out Catholic priests and the Catholic Church.

For what it's worth, the percentage of non-Catholic ministers I personally know of who engaged in that kind of behavior is greater than the percentage of Catholic priests I know of who did it - and every single one of the non-Catholic ministers were quietly shuffled about within their respective denominations. It's a problem in every denomination.

As for the topic of the thread, yeah, those nuns should face charges.

Another event where a woman stole a bag full of cash and hightailed it is interesting because she stopped at an isolated motel and got stabbed to death in the shower by a psycho guy who had the mummified corpse of his mother in the basement of the big house behind the motel!

That depends on whether the person wants to press charges or not. Would you prosecute a family member if you got the money back? They did the right thing, they showed mercy.
