The Bible doesn't state the earth is 6000 years old. The Bible does paint a picture of it being ancient and things transpiring far in the past.

Psalms77:5 " 5 I have considered the days of old, the years of ancient times."

Psalms 77:11 "11 I will remember the works of the Lord: surely I will remember thy wonders of old."

When we look at Gods creation we see billions of stars, billion of grains of sand on the beach, and millions of trees on the planet. Gods scale is not thousand, that is mans scale. Man can recognizes thousands but God deals in million and billions.

I can believe in Jesus Christ, the miracles, and prophesies before and to come.

But this I find hard to, I don't think the Bible really tells us the answer or if it matters since its irrelevant to me since believing in what the Earth is will not get you saved. Maybe this was the way God could explain it to the ancient people?

The earth is older than time - it was created before the day was defined by the Most High God. It was created before He separated light and darkness. It was here before He made the luminaries (sun, moon and stars).

Even if we went by a strict young Earth estimate, "6000" is only one number if you emphasize the Masoretic. But for two thousand years the Church, through a myriad of saints and church doctors, deemed the time of creation around 5500 BC. Because they used (and still do in places) the Septuagint. So we're already past year 7500 by that estimate. I love my KJV as much as the next person, but there's good reason to take heed to the Septuagint.

I'll try not to bore you as to why, but if you're interested, this guy breaks it down well. The Masoretic has serious issues that don't align with either the LXX, the Targums, the Samaritan, the Dead Sea Scrolls (the oldest Hebrew), or even quotes by Josephus (a Jew before Rabbinicism took over). The biggest red herring is the age of Shem.. and why it might've been changed.

What are we using to calculate the 6000 number?
