I don't want this to sound arrogant or boastful, but I like having the wisdom, judgment, insight, or whatever you call it which results from making mistakes and living to understand why they were mistakes.

When I was younger, I might have teetered back and forth on an issue, but now I can confidently say "This is great!" or "This is hogwash".

First, I was younger in my 50s than I am now. I like and identify with the comments made by Darkhorse. I still do some silly things - but not as often.

Love your answer darkhorse, because it's simply the truth of the matter. I also agree with your sentiments alongside with 357Magnum.

Just wanted to add on that the best part for me is that I have other friends who are older as well, and they are very strong people who know who they are, what they stand for, what they believe in. These are the strongest and most wonderful friends to have in life. Real pillars who can weather any storm.

I asked a college age girl the other day what it was like growing up in the modern age. I explained that we were scared of the bomb, hiding under our desks, what is it like today? Her answer, "disappointing", then explained she had over 15,000 in debt because of student loans, and other modern issues.

I think the best thing about being 53 is not having to grow up in the end times.

I know! In my 20's, I thought I was so clever and wise. Now the older I get, the more I realize, what I don't know, but as you pointed out, can rapidly draw a pretty accurate decision on most things, but wise and confident enough to ask for more information, if need be.

Well my 50s are so far behind me...I guess this thread is not about the old suave, debonair, silver haired daddy.

I resemble this remark - especially the suave and debonair part.

Like one or two others I'm no longer in my fifties (which were tough years, but that was for personal reasons). However 60+ is another matter, I love:
- being nearer to Heaven
- being RETIRED!! :):):):):):):):):):)
- being able to remember a time before the permissive society
- being part of this forum and the friendships here

On a very serious note:
I think the best thing about being ... is not having to grow up in the end times.
Yes

...and a light-hearted one:
I guess every man has to play his own game. He who tootith not his own horn, will not get his horn tootithed!
The sheer joy of these posts! :D

I get to pray for my children with the full knowlege that they have all the responsibility for the grand kids. I remember how big a job that is.
