3. DAY OF THE LORD

Destruction of a nation by the power of God working through human armies.
This important symbolic phrase is found many times in the Bible and usually referred to the impending destruction of the Hebrew nation for apostasies they committed against God. Occasionally, it referred to the destruction of a pagan nation that had harmed God’s people. In every case where it is used in the Old Testament, it signifies a spiritual coming of God in power, but manifested in physical human armies.

4. Symbol:
TRUMPET

Consolidation of God’s people.
In ancient times, the trumpet served a purpose during battle. It could be heard over the noise and was used to call combatants to the battle, or to regroup and consolidate their forces during the confusion of the fighting. We find a reference to this literal use of the battle trumpet in 1 Corinthians 14:8, where Paul states, “for if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?”. In symbolic form, it was God’s call to his people, to consolidate their spiritual forces in allegiance to him and against their common enemy, the unbelieving and persecuting Jewish nation.
