Am I the only one noticing a decline of manhood?

Lately I have noticed a strong decline of true manhood? Not even google has much search information. I noticed a decline in Church, in society, in politics etc. Even speaking to the younger upcoming males it's like they are so...feminine. When I speak about these things with my friends it's like they turn the cheek. The only so-called manhood is supposedly found in rap videos, sports or other foolish suggestions. It's actually quite repulsing. In Christendom the songs are all about mushy love and yada yada like if it's a erotic poem. Where has manhood gone? Not this passivity, people pleasing doormats or the angry rebellious irresponsible behavior.

I'm not 100% sure but I don't think the requirement you require on manhood is actually biblically based. Where in the bible does it say a man must exhibit more masculine traits and mannerisms in order to be a real man? As for the rap and Christian songs, some of it is repulsive and some mushy--and even trivializing--and some not.

how lately is lately?

are you comparing the society of the 20's or 40's to today's society?
if so, yes there are many changes---not just in the men but also in the women. the two sexes are not so drastically far apart these days, but are more compatible than in years gone by.:)

Maybe you should move to the southern part of Georgia. We still have a lot of men with all of that "manhood" you speak of. But I can agree with you about the change of men not being so "manly" per say. But, then again, sometimes I am glad for it. Some of those old "Men don't cry" implications are dumb in my opinion. Just as the old women should wear skirts and dresses, etc... I believe more so in being ME. And I have to admit, I was more of a tom boy growing up. ;P

Is it a more USA thing? However too many teachers are female and my two boys have complained too many books at school are girly.

Down under there have been a lot more comments about how aggressive females are becoming. More violent incidents by women happening now than a generation ago.

I completely agree with you that there has been a decline. I think the problem lies in that there has been a decline in men passionate for God. If one is passionate for God, following His ways they will shine through as men. There is no questioning the manhood of the the men I know that have the closest relationships to Jesus. God made men and women very differently and our society seems to glorify those who try to be more like the opposite gender.

An issue that goes right alongside this is that many men in our society are addicted to inappropriate contentography thinking that it will make them feel more like a man. Instead it makes them feel like less of a man and they begin to buy Satan's lies that they are not much of a man, and begin living into that new identity. It is important to affirm the manhood of those around us. If a man is never told that he is man how will he ever become one.

Men are born to be warriors. Men want battles to fight. But so many men have taken their desires for battle and adventure to sports or video-games. I'm not talking about a fighting in a war. I'm talking about having a true purpose in ones life. If a man does not have something to fight for he will never fully grow into a Biblical man.

Whoever said anything about masculine traits, Is your comment coming from a cat obsession jk jk. I mean honor, initiative not passivity. Qualities like confidence not arrogance which is childish. Protecting and respecting women not putting them on some needy pedestal etc etc. Heck, even women notice the changes where men are becoming flaming metros who care more about their eyebrows and cats then they do of the injustice. I could go on forever.

"Me Tarzan, You Jane" is what pulp fiction defines, not God. Men are NOT "born to be warriors" or all men would be warriors. All women are NOT born to be helpless and dependent, or all women would be helpless and dependent. The fact that there are timid men and aggressive women is proof enough that these traits are not intrinsic but culturally defined. If you have to tell someone they shouldn't do something, then they must be capable of it.

We are people, who happen to come in male and female bodies. If we know it is immoral to judge on the basis of genetic qualities (skin color for instance), then it's always immoral to judge in that way. Since gender is a genetic quality then it's immoral to judge on that basis as well. When we finally admit that women and men are fully equal and stop judging by the flesh, we will take a giant leap toward God's intended design.

Very reasonable response but one question do you honestly believe inappropriate contentography has made us question our identity and birthright given by God? Interesting never thought of that.

That's crazy I agree with him. At my college it's very girly the way we are taught, our male professors have this vibe of being feminine. I don't even know what to think except on ways to start a movement of some sort.

I believe it has. I know that it made me question my identity when I was ensnared. It made me feel worthless. I felt as though I was a failure and would never be the man that God made me to be. It is easy to fall for Satan's lies about our identity when we are trapped in sin. When we sin he has a foothold in our lives. We begin feeling unworthy to be a child of God and questioning our identity, not realizing that our identity comes through Jesus Christ.

This sounds like a rant to me.

There are a number of contributing factors.

The Drinking Water
- birth control pills (estrogen)
- fluoride, lithium, & antidepressants make people more docile

Microwaves
- turns plastic into a chemical similar to estrogen

Society
- a lack of male role models due to the number of divorces/separations & a family court system that is biased towards women
- less rigid gender-based jobs/roles
- greater tolerance of effeminate men
- general anxiety & a feeling of impending doom in the world

To do well at school or university these days students have to present what educators want to hear or see. Having to seem pro feminist/gay/minority groups' ideology to do well academically will influence students to think that way as well. Only a strong fish can swim against the tide....

My church sings hymns, not the contemporary Jesus is my boyfriend stuff. Switch churches if you can't stand to hear that stuff.

I do think that in the church though, that men are not stepping up to the plate and filling out their vocations. This is why women have taken over strong roles in their congregations (and some I totally disagree with).

Ha ha!

I must laugh, as my old church - if you wish to call it that - was into all that. They took Song of Solomon and tried turning it into a message on kissing Jesus. I was like, no thanks.

Anyway, this culture has definitely dropped the ball on how to be a strong, competent man. I'm not sure if it's feminism, the church or some other factors, but many men - especially Christians - are seen as weak, spineless, supplicating and powerless. No wonder there are so many single Christian men in the church! Women will look elsewhere, which is why the ones in the church often date outside the church.

I'm not sure what you were googling but the subject on manhood was touched on heavily in several articles about the growing number of single-parent homes...many women are raising children without the father or a father-figure for their children. Try as they may a woman can't be both mom and dad.

I hesitate to bring up the number of blacks in prisons...you can find generations of a family behind bars. I have been to prisons and have talked to many ex-prisoners and have read many articles on the growing populations of young blacks in prisons. (Many people have heard of the 3 strikes law/rule...well, did you know in California getting caught 3 times for non-violent crimes you could end up doing 25 yrs. to life in prison? Check out the case of
Ewing v. California.)

More and more...
It's being made all to easy for a man to bow out of his responsibilities...moms and their children get kept up by government programs and other outreach programs in the community.

If the man isn't being the spiritual leader in the home or isn't spending quality time with his children-- that's alright, because churches have children's programs/camps and youth ministers to "fill in" for the fathers.

I looked around at my church's VBS this summer, over a 150 children showed up, we had lots of volunteers (mostly women and men well over 50.) Our VBS didn't start until around 7 pm.
Where were all our younger men & ladies
to help out?
Too busy with their IPhones/cell phones and Facebook...I'm not kidding, we get reminded every Sunday at church to turn off our cell phones!
This has been going on for over 2 years and still someone phones rings/chimes!
