Well.. it goes back to faith. I have faith that the Holy Bible is true. It would be foolish for me to say one verse is true and the other is not... so I believe in 2 Timothy 3:16 which basically says the Bible is fully inspired by God (hmmm I'm going to make that my signature). This is how I know what God likes or dislikes.
So you will kill a disobedient child:confused:

I'm not exactly sure how that pertains to what you quoted but the answer is No. If you found something in the Bible that leads you to believe I am supposed to kill a child then please share. Thanks...

Do you want a real answer from Christians that truly believe? In other words are you willing to entertain (not necessarily believe) the answers a practicing Christian is willing to give you concerning the questions you have, or are you rhetorically asking in order to prove a point or argue?


I think I said it before, but this thread could go very far if you (and everyone else) is coming from a perspective of learning and conversation, rather than invalidation and condemnation. If you are truly looking for a non-invasive, somewhat philoso-spiritual discussion, then I am more than happy to provide an answer.

If you are going to call us crazy or ridiculous for our beliefs, then please let us know before we invest time and research into your questions.
The way I see it is this, Christians believe that they can say whatever they like and they should NEVER be questioned or asked to explain about anything they have said, it would seem that if a question is asked about a statement made by a Christian it's deemed to be a rebuke about or a slur on or in some way ridiculing the statement made, why do you think that is?

Christian statement: My God loves me.
We are not allowed to ask which God? where is this God? can you see this God? have you heard this God speak? how do you know this God loves you? are you sure this God is not just in your mind?
All perfectly normal questions to ask but when it's about what someone [without any justification at all] believes they considered you to be ridiculing them, WHY?

Why do Christians never want to tell others WHY they believe? they are more than happy to tell everyone that they believe but never WHY, perhaps they don't know WHY they believe but they would never be so bold as to say they don't know WHY, why can't they simply say, "I WANT TO BELIEVE"? they can't because they think it would mean they are somehow vulnerable and lacking in what it takes to be grown up when all it would mean is that they are human and humans fear death.
I fear death but the difference is I have come to terms with the inevitable and death is only the natural end to life because everything dies, everything, just learn to live with it or do as you're doing and clutch at straws, your choice, just stop being so defensive, you already know that Atheist consider religions to be a mild form of madness.

As I said, you believe what Timothy THOUGHT God would like, he only THOUGHT it was what God would like, but somehow you KNOW.

The Bible is true because the Bible says it's true, sounds reasonable to me, but then I'm just an idiot.

Death for Blasphemy

Infidels and Gays Should Die
So God let them go ahead and do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other's bodies. Kill Anyone who Approaches the Tabernacle

Kill People for Working on the Sabbath

Actually there is so much stuff like this in the Bible that it makes me shudder.

Infanticide:
1 Samuel 15:3 God commands the death of helpless "suckling" infants. This literally means that the children god killed were still nursing.
Psalms 135:8 & 136:10 Here god is praised for slaughtering little babies.
Psalms 137:9 Here god commands that infants should be “dashed upon the rocks”.

The murdering of children:
Leviticus 20:9 “For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death: he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him.”
Judges 11:30-40 Jephthah killed his young daughter (his only child) by burning her alive as a burnt sacrifice to the lord for he commanded it.
Psalms 137:8-9 Prayer/song of vengeance “0 daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us. Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.”
2 Kings 6:28-29 “And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give thy son, that we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow. So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son.”

And when he was come into his house, he took a knife, and laid hold on his concubine, and divided her, together with her bones, into twelve pieces, and sent her into all the coasts of Israel.” To put it very bluntly this poor, young lady was murdered by her mate for being raped.
Exodus 12:29 God killed, intentionally, every first-born child of every family in Egypt, simply because he was upset at the Pharaoh. And god caused the Pharaoh’s actions in the first place. Since when is it appropriate to murder children for their ruler’s forced action?
Exodus 20:9-10 God commands death for cursing out ones parents Joshua 8 God commanded the deaths of 12,000 men, women, and children of Ai. They were all slain in the ambush that was planned by god.
2 Kings 2:23-24 The prophet Elisha, was being picked on by some young boys from the city because of his bald head. The prophet turned around and cursed them in the Lords name. Then, two female bears came out of the woods and killed forty-two of them. You would think that God could understand that sometimes the youthful make childish jokes. Calling someone “bald head” is far from being worthy of death.
Leviticus 26:30 “And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.”
1 Samuel 15:11-18 God repents of having made Saul king since Saul refused to carry out God’s commandments (i.e., Saul refused to murder all the innocent women and children.) At least god realises what an immoral, murderous pig he is on this one.
I Kings 16:34 Laying the foundation for a city using your first born child and using your youngest son to set up the gates.
Isaiah 13:15-18 If God can find you, he will “thrust you through,” smash your children “to pieces” before your eyes, and rape your wife.
Jeremiah 11:22-23 God will kill the young men in war and starve their children to death.
Jeremiah 19:7-9 God will make parents eat their own children, and friends eat each other.
Lamentations 2:20-22 God gets angry and mercilessly torments and kills everyone, young and old. He even causes women to eat their children.

Christianity belongs in the realm of faith. God likes his people to be humble. One has to let go of pride, engage humility and believe.
Believe nonsense? Why would any rational or benign God give you a mind and then punish you for using it? You learn by using, and even by making mistakes. Shove your talent under a rock? What did Jesus say about the servant who did that? You take your risks and you take your lumps or have the honesty to curse God and eat a twelve-gauge.
"Fundamentalists" don't put their trust in God. They put their trust in the graven images of words. They can outrage morality because they are following the "letter of the law", or because they profess to believe in "homousion" instead of "homoiusion". Jesus had a word for these people: Hypocrites! All shiny and righteous outside but stinking corruption within.
All you have to do to be "saved" is to believe nonsense. Lie, cheat, steal, commit adultery and fornication, march off to war, molest children, let starve those they have turned into widows and orphans with their murderous greed, and it is all OK because they believe nonsense. They don't even have to keep any inconvenient rules, just so they believe nonsense.
Never mind what Jesus said about public prayer, never mind what he said about resisting evil, never mind what he said about giving to those who ask, never mind what he said about the impossibility of serving God and money, all you have to do to be "saved" is shout, "I BELIEVE! i BELIEVE, LORD!"
Anyone on this forum who says that he or she knows Jesus is either a liar or insane, (Because Jesus has been dead for two millenia, killed by the same sort of people who go around these days shouting "Jesus is Lord!") and if Jesus were around today he would be banned from this forum for flaming or blasphemy.
In order to be a Christian I would have to give up my sense of smell.

It's a forum for discussions about Christianity. Isn't this the Creation & Evolution subforum where supporters of Evolution discuss things with supporters of Creation? Doesn't it say at the top somewhere that "This forum is open to non-believers"?
I don't think she is saying you are not welcome here. She is saying you are "trying to SHOVE DOWN OUR THROATS THEIR AGENDA AND THEIR DOGMA."

If this is not what you are doing then just tell her nicely. I'm sure she will understand. :)

All you are doing is trying to justify your own atheistic religion. But if God actually did all those things you accuse Him of this would mean He exist, wouldn't it? This would also mean your religion can take a hike.

If the stories are true, then God exists, and He's a monster.

If the stories are not true, then God doesn't exist, and His followers are the monsters.
