What does evolution mean to you?

sOuljah...I haven't read the whole thread (sorry) but I am confused. You're a Catholic...the RCC does not deny evolution.

Nope not to me to the whole world. If god would prove him self to the whole world then I would believe him.

So because it's in a book, and sense there is no evidence that he was raised from the dead we are supposed to believe it? If god would do something that we all could see, and show that he really exists then everyone in the world would believe him.

So why do you keep saying it's a way for people to leave christianity or something like that. You seem to forget that all the people that believe evolution are christians or almost all of them.

I think this is an oversimplification.

People have a hard time believing mutually exclusive things. If I believe:

1. That evolution occurs.
2. That evolution contradicts the Bible.

... then I *must* conclude that the Bible is false.

However, that doesn't mean that "belief that evolution occurs" made me think the Bible was false. It means that the *combination* of beliefs had that effect. I blame the second belief; it's a pure invention of some parts of American Christianity, almost unheard of anywhere else in the world, and is, I believe, a result of excessive Biblical literalism combined with /sola scriptura/ - both of which I see as doctrines practically tailor-made to separate people from a personal relationship with God.

Reliable, what makes them reliable? Again if I said I seen aliens and no one else DID, and there is other people that have seen aliens reliable people does that mean we see aliens. NO.

I could find a similiar list of Hindi, Souljah. Does that mean the Vedas are true, and that Vishnu is real?

Anyway i'm done talking about this lets get back on topic.

Man! This is my own opinion obviously, but I really dont believe in the whole evolution thing, if I did then I think Id feel really unwantered that Ijust came on this earth by accident. I do childcare at my school and to see the amazing way that babys form and can live in a womb for 9 months is amazing even biology lessons amaze me! Can anyone really believe that we are all formed from some chemicals that reacted together millions of yrs ago?? we have a way to complex body for that to be true.
take it like this, if you walked in to my kitchen and saw a buety of a cake on my kitchen top then you may ask how I made it, if I then replyed to you 'o well actually the eggs, flower and all other igrediants just flew together and formed this wounder sat there!!' how mad wud u think I was!'
very I guess. There has to have been God there to make this world. LIke there had to be someone there to make the cake.....rah rah. Hope this makes scense. God made this world and everything in it, and man he loves everyone he made, even if they dont believe in him! He still loves them and wants them to love him too. God bless you all

pinkangel....all forms of life can reproduce, I see no miracle in a bacterium splitting itself in two (and why would God specially create these forms of life anyway?) Viruses are able to replicate and move, and they are not techically "living"...indicating that chemicals can come together in astonishing ways.

I became convinced abiogenesis was possible after learning about Extremophiles...living organisms that thrive in conditions once thought unable to sustain life (deep ocean thermal vents...these animals are not oxygen dependent! Organisms live within the Polar Ice Caps, in Volcanoes...it is so fascinating)

yeah but have you ever looked at the humen body closly? dont you think its just a miracle that were able to breathe when were asleep? surely some bacteria that banged together could not form such a well clock worked body. God formed us especially to perform his will, to be his children. plus why if we are all made of bacteria are we all totally different beings?? with different features personaltys etc. Dont get me wroung everyone deserves there on view on life. but doesnt the evolution view just make you feel so insugnificant?? like no one actually wanted you here in the first place? Where as God he made evetything from the very beging for a reason, he has a plan for every single persons life. I agree that extremophiles are fasinating , but I beliveve God made those things aswell and he cause them to be able to survive in this world and the wierd circumstances etc.

Why would it make you feel insugnificant? Evolution doesn't say how the origin or life was create only how it got to be. God could have still created us but using evolution.

yeah I get what you mean, hmmmm I just dont think I come form a pice of bacteria I believe God made me, and that he didnt make me from something else I.e a monkey or something. He formed me totally separete. Do you not believe that you r a special individual to god?

No I don't think I'm special at all why would I? The problem is you might not believe the theory of evolution is correct, but the evidence backing up evolution says it is. We can't get rid of the evidence, because we would have to get rid of our DNA which is impossible.
