Self-righteousness

It seems that everywhere I go on the Internet in Christian forums, and groups, and clubs, that there is much too much self-righteousness. It seems each individual thinks his or her interpretation of Scriptures is the one and only correct one, and that everyone who disagrees with him or her is necessarily wrong. There is too much judging, also.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

We need to remember we are all sinners and have all fallen short of the glory of God:

Psalms 14:3- They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Psalms 53:3- Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Romans 3:10 - As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

Romans 3:12 - They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

And again, Romans 3:23 - For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Remember again when Jesus said, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone", and one-by-one they walked away in shame, remembering their sins. It is by Jesus Christ alone that we are saved, not by what we think of ourselves.

I'd like to see a lot more humility and a lot less self-righteousness in the Body of Christ today. Something to think about.

Not all criticism is condemnation. Not all evaluation is judging.

Much of the time, people around here give each other honest critiques to spur them on toward growth, as we are supposed to do (Hebrews 10:24 ).

Does it hurt to be spurred? Yes! Ask a horse! But the spur is meant to get the horse to perform its best, not to be cruel.

By posting what you did, you were caught in the very act of judging that you condemn! You made assumptions from a human viewpoint, assumptions that may be seriously in error. Only God has the right to judge and condemn. It seems very self-righteous of you to place yourself outside this group and be the one to cast the first stone.

If you truly would like to see more humility, practice humility. It's contageous!

"So let's stop criticizing each other. Instead, you should decide never to do anything that would make other Christians have doubts or lose their faith."

Lamb's Love, I did not say I was placing myself out of this group. And I do believe I was just stating a fact when I wrote, "It seems each individual thinks his or her interpretation of Scriptures is the one and only correct one, and that everyone who disagrees with him or her is necessarily wrong. There is too much judging, also. "

So I guess I don't understand what are accusing me of.

Everyone believes what they believe in...it is their bedrock foundation for living. We ALL believe we are basically right, till proven wrong. I don't think it's a matter of 'self-righteousness', but of 'self-expression'; expressing one'self...which includes their belief system.

But even so, it is profitable to be open to biblical discussion that 'sprurs' us on, as Lambslove put it.

Interesting word "self-righteousness". There is no way "self" can ever be righteous. In fact we can not be righteous tell we die to self and put on Jesus. Righteousness is a work of God in us. Our part is to yield to God, to allow Him to do a work in us, to cause us to be righteous before Him.

This is the truth and the way you put it John is wisdom
