Should this sub forum be titled "Non Nicene" theology or "Anti-Nicene" theology. (not to be confused with "ante-Nicene")

please feel free to elaborate on what you prefer and why

You all may have guessed this already, but I chose Anti-Nicene. Ireally dont give a hoot about being "politically correct" remember that God is a triune God, and that to be Anti-triune, that is to say Anti Nicene is to be anti....

get the picture?

words have power, we can either dilute the gospel with them ( gee I wonder who that would please?) or proclaime the truth with them.

I voted non-Nicene, but not for reasons of political correctness. The prefix "anti-", while it can mean "disagreeing with" and thus would be accurate, in the popular mind also tends to be "opposed to", which has a much more polemic flair to it.

So for example "anti-abortionists" are those who not only disagree with abortion, they also are usually those who go out and fight against abortion legislation.

It tends to be an active descriptor, whereas "non-" can merely mean they disagree or hold different points of view. I may think non-Nicenes are mistaken, but I do not think the majority of non-Nicene believers actively go out and attack Nicene beliefs (except, of course, in debate discussions like these forums, and over coffee and such). Some do, of course... JW and LDS both have strong traditions of door-to-door soliciting to try to convert others to their way of thinking. But there are many others who just hold a few non-Nicene beliefs, and don't think much of it. Like annihilationism, or preterism, or Nestorianism, or all the many little things that one can believe that are contrary to the Creed, and still function very well in a Nicene congregation for years, sometimes without even realizing there is a problem with your doctrine.

Those that do not profess the Nicene or Apostles Creed may still have a Theology. That Theology, though not necessarily shared by the majority of Christians may still be considered by those that profess it to be Christian.

Therefor, I feel it is more appropriate that the sub-forum be titled : Non-Nicene. It more accurately describes those Theologies and doctrines that are encouraged to post in this sub-forum. They might not adhere to the Nicene formula but that does not necessarily mean that they are "Anti".

No vote from me either this section was unorthodox theology before the move and it really was not geared toward non-nicene theology and certianly not anti.

I personally do not put much stock in any creeds made up by men so I guess non fits in a way as in it is a non issue from my point of view.

I think either statement could describe a person, I would choose Non-nicene for myself.

Although if someone hated the nicene creed with a fervor, anti-nicene would probably be a more apt description.

Nicene vs. non-nicene.... I'm a monotheist christian. (1 corinthians states "there is for us ONE God, the Father.")

"Nicene christians" are free to call themselves whatever they want... but they're like any other religions that worship multiple gods...

I prefer not to be constantly compared to a bunch of people who adopted parts of whatever religions they liked and started a claim that people who believe what Christ taught over what they taught to be non-christians.

Hello All,
I am fairly new to this forum and am just learning my way around this massive board. Maybe it is just me but I find this poll to be rather divisive in nature.

Who decided to draw a line of demarcation in the sand? Why nicene and non/anti nicene? you could just as easily have said King James Bible believers vs Greek literal concordant believers. If you want to compartmentalize yourselves into various labels, fine, just stop the divisiveness.

If you simply must compartmentalize everyone then, what's wrong with a group called non credo specific/specified rather than non nicene or anti nicene. It seems there just might be too much categorizing and classifying vs unifying.

Just call be brother and I'll be fine with that.

Yes, because the Bible says "Believe in the Nicene creed and be baptised" in order to receive salvation...

No wait, it actually says "Repent and be baptised".

It's silly to push people away because they don't have the correct "theology". Surely all you need is Jesus?

"theology". Surely all you need is Jesus?

Is it OK to believe Jesus was an Elf?
Is it OK to believe Jesus was a prophet preceding Mohamed?
Is it OK to believe Jesus has a Heavenly Mother?
Is it OK to believe Jesus was married with Children?
Is it OK to believe Jesus was only an example and that he was not a sacrifice for sins?
Is it OK to believe that Jesus was just a man and a teacher of morality?
