I just ordered a Maya Sling Wrap for my daughter who will be a month old tomorrow. I didn't know if she'd be the kind of baby who'd like being this close but evidently she is. I have a 'snugli' but she doesn't like it because she can't see out. She is already trying to hold her head up a lot of the time and is stubborn as she can be, but she also loves to be close to me so I thought this would work well.

Has anyone else used these? Good comments? Bad?

I don't know what Maya means but I used a sling wrap and loved it.

They were great for nursing in public, you can move it to conceal yourself. They leave your hands free while you still have your child near you.

Some cons,

Your back can get sore especially as she grows. Try to do some stretches from time to time and remember to take care of your back.

When our children are real little, remember to still hold the back of her neck for support. Make sure that the way your baby is in the wrap supports her neck. My son was trying to hold up his neck soon and I was suprised by how little support the wrap gave to the baby's neck.

Congrats on your new little one.

OH my goodness, Are you going to name your baby Levi? That is my brother's name and I hardly ever hear it. What middle name are you going to use? His was Raymond.

He was actually named after my great grandmother's father, Levi Jackson. A ship captain on a small island off Cape Cod who rescued a ship going down.

It's a great name!

It's been used in many parts of the world for centuries, although not 'westernized' with a trendy name as such. IMO, it's the most natural thing for our little ones to want to remain as close as possible to us at that stage. A lot of non-moms, ie. nannies, babysitters, caregivers, in Asia use the sling so they can multi-task. It's just so efficient.

My daughter's middle name is actually Raymond--had to use the family name no matter what!!!

Here is my favorite of favorite baby wearing sites (I wear my babies for much of their first two years of life!):

www.kangarookorner.com

I am a big, big fan of the fleece pouches! I have used Maya Wraps, but I do not like the metal rings. If I buy another sling- it'll be from KangarooKorner- because they use nylon rings and leave the tails open- and I also like to have a little pading in the shoulder area with a sling, which Maya Wraps also do not have

I'm on the waiting list for a carrier from kozycarrier.com. I chose to go with their carrier because it got great reviews at thebabywearer.com, and it looks like a carrier both my husband and I would be able to use. (Since we're ordering it in plain black. :D ) I also like that it can be used for toddlers as well as newborns, and can be worn on the front or back.

One day I was so desperate with a baby who was 3 months old, and wouldn't be put down, that I grabbed the bedsheet, made a sling and wore him. it was great. that was 20 years ago, and in this country it was only starting to be done. I wish I had had more support for "wearing" the baby. All I heard was that I was spoiling him, he needed to learn to be independent... blah, blah blah.

Lol. :D

If you go to Jakarta, the nannies of American, Canadian, Australian, et al, expats working there are carrying their babies in slings while going about the day's work.

I have a couple of carriers that are similar, but I often don't wear them, because I cannot nurse easily in them, and I find that they are too hot and complicated. I like the ease of being able to pop my bambino in and out of the pouch without lots of reworking! My 4 year old, however hated the sling and would only be happy obn my back as an infant, so it was great for her! Will you post and let me know how you and your hubby like it once it arrives? I am always looking for reviews of everyone's baby wearing things!!

I have to go pick it up at the PO tomorrow-they tried to deliver while we were out of town. I am concerned about the heat factor--I live in central Texas and it gets HOT here in the summer and my daughter is proving to be very warm natured. We'll just have to see. I have one of the $20 snugli carriers from Wal Mart, and she is comfortable in it but she gets frustrated because a.) she can't hold her head up as much as she'd like and b.) she can't see over the top of it yet so I may be back to using that after another month or so.

I use a premax sling. They liik more high tech so the dh si more likely to wear it too. It has a padded middle section for the baby to lay on for better support and the rails are independently adjustable. You adjust the lingth to where you want it and leave it then you adjust the rails to get the baby in and out. I got mine at babies r us and I think their website is premax.com but I'm not sure because I lost the booklet that came with it.

Well, Emma hates her sling. She can't stretch her legs out enough and while she loves to snuggle when she's sleepy, she likes to move around a lot when she's awake and alert. I am going to give it to a girlfriend of mine who wants one. I am considering the Ergo Baby Carrier at this point, but I think I'll wait until Emma can hold her head up on her own--I don't think she'll be happy in anything until that happens.

I have a Maya Wrap and I love it! I used it with my daughter from infant on. She can still use it and she is almost three feet tall. It can be converted into a blanket when she is too big for it. Mine came with a DVD that showed how to use it left-handed or right-handed.

God Bless...
