Coping strategies, early detection and prevention

WOW. That sounds like one of the worst psych's I've ever heard of...and I thought my last one was bad. When they get to be know-it-all's, that's when it's time to find a new psych. Those with bipolar need a way to see what is going on in their lives amidst the confusion of the illness...

When depressed, do you have difficulty going outside?

I completely understand, man. That's really rough. It's okay to grieve losing a friend. At least for now, you have a tangible reason to be feeling so down. Do you think you'll be getting another dog anytime in the near future? Not to replace your two labs, but at least to have another soft...

How to know if u have bipolar disorder???

To me, that sounds like normal 18 year old stuff...but if you feel that getting some psych help would be, well, helpful, then go for it. Weed can sometimes confuse things for people, and for a very very very small percentage of the population, it can trigger an early onset of psych disorders...

Coping strategies, early detection and prevention

Sleep has been the biggest help in my life. Getting solid sleep is one of the foremost ways to prevent mood changes, I've found. However, it doesn't stop them all. Going to bed and getting up at the same times are a good start though. I do keep a mood chart, just a really simple thing...

When depressed, do you have difficulty going outside?

It's almost like depression knows all the things that will aid in chasing it away. The things that help stop depression the most are always the hardest things to face/do. Exercise, sunlight, friends...they all seem awful and dreadful to experience. I don't necessarily get anxious about...

How did you find out you had bipolar disorder?

I don't know Gary...bipolar is on a continuum. I don't think I have Bipolar I or II, more like Cyclothymia or Bipolar NOS. But with depression and anxiety in the mix, I can't tell half the time. Plus, then there's mixed episodes to contend with. And also, the chicken or the egg conundrum as...

How did you find out you had bipolar disorder?

I have a lot of ups and downs, but my drug and alcohol use is way down. I rarely drink any more, like once or twice a month and within moderation. If I'm at the bar for 4 hours, I might have 4-6 drinks. If I'm only there 2 hours, I'll only have 1-3. I always drink enough so that I'm legally...

How did you find out you had bipolar disorder?

Trish: I did finally get into therapy earlier this year. My counselor is going in a completely different direction and doesn't seem to know much about mood disorders, which disheartens me somewhat. But for the moment, I'm willing to check out some of the things she wants to discuss because I...

How did you find out you had bipolar disorder?

I went to my family doc today to talk to her about a referral to a psychiatrist. I've finally come to the point where I really do think I have bipolar and I want to do something about it. While explaining my symptoms, my doc says that I am probably a typical young adult who sometimes gets...

    Psychotic or spiritual attack?

Even if you can't pray for 3 hours, just pray when you can! We often forget to pray throughout our daily lives. This can be so beneficial. For a depressed person, praying 3 hours can seem like the greatest struggle in the world...but it can be done in bed, so that's a big plus!

    Psychotic or spiritual attack?

Sometimes it just takes TIME. In this society, we want everything now...but we must remember that we are on God's time. Give rubber bands a try if it feels like you ABSOLUTELY need to cut. Just keep one on your wrist and when the urge becomes unbearable, give it a snap. it's so much safer...

    Psychotic or spiritual attack?

My heart goes out to you friend! Four things that can go a long way to provide healing and help control swings as well as figure out what triggers mania and depression for you: 1. Sleep a consistent 8 hours of sleep at night. Go to bed at the same time and wake up at the same time. If you...

    Psychotic or spiritual attack?

Hey friend, it sounds somewhat like a mixed episode. Keep trying different med combos. Be honest and upfront with those working with you, tell them how the meds are making you feel. You are NOT thinking clearly. But that doesn't mean it is or is not a spiritual attack or mental issues...

    Depression sends us reaching

Thanks, I do some of my best writing when dealing with depression...it's a sweet spot that's hard to find and I will miss it if I find meds that work well. Yea, I'm looking at all my options...there's almost too many options that I'm freezing up. I've asked a mentor of mine for some help in...

Not too sure if I am bipolar...

Hey, how did it go today with your appointment? Just take it one day at a time, let's not get too overwhelmed with the future of things. I came on here yesterday again for the first time in a long time too. I know I need to get some help. I'm working on finding someone to talk to. I'm...
