  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Pro-Life Protesting Behavior

Again, nobody is talking about respecting women for having abortions. We are talking about respecting women for being fellow human beings with the right to make their own decisions in life. This is not something that has to be earned, at least not IMO.

    Pro-Life Protesting Behavior

Nobody is honoring women for having abortions. I'm talking about respect and honor for women as human beings (which is what I thought Kevin was talking about). Is that supposed to be conditional? If not, how do you determine which women are worthy of this basic human dignity and which aren't?

It's a shame, though, that you don't honor or respect them enough to let them make their own decisions concerning their bodies. That really sort of implies that you respect zygotes more than you do grown women.

Are you sure about this "safely birthed" part? When I think of the word "safe," "childbirth" isn't always the first thing that comes to mind. We're talking about a pretty physically traumatizing event for a woman's body here. A LOT can go wrong.

    The essence of a man.

So, would a woman who has allowed her husband to be the overseer of her life be considered a failure as a woman? If not, why?

I wish I had someone to talk to. Feeling unsure.

Are you talking about the national election? Hmm... I would've said the opposite.

    Pro-Life Protesting Behavior

To be fair, it seems there are plenty of assumptions (and propaganda) on both sides of the issue here. I think we can all admit this. Also, while many women have, indeed, regretted having abortions, many have also intensely regretted giving their children up for adoption (the alternative most...

    Pro-Life Protesting Behavior

Jesus told us that "by their fruits, you shall know them." I'm sorry, I don't see where screaming abuse at women entering clinics is any evidence whatsoever of love and compassion for women and the fetuses they may or may not be carrying. I have to agree with EnemyParty here. The ultimate...

    Can WOMEN preach in CHURCH?

Actually, in FloatingAxe's defense, I think my NIV translation has footnotes specifying that the "with" in these verses can also be translated as "in." Not sure what translation you are using... it may be different.

    Can WOMEN preach in CHURCH?

Hi Carlos, thanks for your response. So, am I to understand that because I'm single, I can speak in church? Do I forfeit this right when I marry? That seems strange to me. Also, where does the Law itself command submission to husbands? I can't seem to find a specific verse for this - all I...

    Re-Marriage?

How comforting to know that if I marry a man who beats me to a bloody pulp, I need to stay married to him or else be considered to be living in sin. Because, you know, all victims of domestic abuse know from the beginning that their SOs are going to abuse them someday.

    Can WOMEN preach in CHURCH?

Can I ask a really stupid question in regards to 1 Cor. 14:34? This verse specifies that the Law requires women to be silent in church (or, as it were, in the Synagogue). I have NEVER been able to find this in the Old Testament. This is one more reason I tend to believe the theory that this bit...

    Where are the Fathers?

Can only fathers provide such wisdom? What about moms? It seems like our society focuses so much on the role fathers play in a person's development... where's the appreciation for the role a mom plays?

    Contraception

Sorry to come into this thread so late, but something just occurred to me re: Benedicta's repeated iteration of God making women's bodies to be fertile at times and infertile at times, but disease being a result of the Fall. In the OT (the Law, as well as the Prophets), God refers to a...

    Pro-Life Protesting Behavior

I think what Enemy Party meant here, Bianca (and I may be way off here), is that, in both cases, extremist protestors are picking on people they are reasonably sure will not fight back. If it were a 250-lb, 6'5 male biker going in for an abortion, I have to wonder whether these protestors would...
