It demonstrates that the fictional diary wasn't written until after World War I.

Instead, what it should do is open your eyes to just how susceptible Dean Odle is to false ideas, and maybe take him down off that pedestal you've put him up on.

I already knew about the lost diaries, in fact I had already purchased the book before Dean had even mentioned it, Dean is not always first to be in the know about stuff.
