I have always been worried about deficits and debt. And it's clear that Republican administrations have done a terrible job at reducing the debt, while some Democratic administrations have made serious headway on the problem.

I'm not against this. I'm only wondering why you guys suddenly agree we need a stimulus. The American people are and have been struggling and this administration's economic and trade policies have only made things more expensive. Hence the sudden need to stimulate the economy. Some people in the White House can see the writing on the walls ahead of the midterms.

It's like filling a pool with a garden hose, but the rules to filling it are such that it has to be filled using only a specified amount of water per day, and has to be filled within 90 days, and the water cannot be shut off until completion, and the dimensions of the pool walls are mathematically unattainable (randomly lumpy).

So you turn the valve a little higher, then a little lower, and adjust it accordingly as you see fit, so as to not overflow it, or have it too shallow.

That allows them to take on more workers if needed be, or even lay some off, sometimes difficult to replace. They have to invest in material and equipment and machinery and offices and trucks and pay taxes. They don't want to over invest or they'll go broke. And they don't want to under invest or they won't make a profit.

Trump, on a whim, has added tariffs, dropped them, increased them, raised them again, reduced them again...and this has been going on for months. Nobody, including Trump himself, knows what in blue blazes is going to happen next month, let alone next week. If one has the energy to maintain this, or set a standard for others to follow in achieving it, then who's to say it's idiotic? I think your main focus points to where you brought up international trade... As a non-American. It's just that American voters won't place the interests of foreign nations on par with American interests. It's not that we're selfish, it's just that we are putting to use our survival skills for the long run. Our country must be maintained. It's our obligation.

How can you not understand that post. If you buy corn, it's going to come from Iowa. If you buy oranges, they'll likely come from California. Some basic foodstuffs that you buy can be home grown. But check out your pantry. I literally just walked into my kitchen and 5 of the first 6 things I looked at were from Pakistan, China, Italy, UK and Thailand. Put tariffs on those and they'll cost me more.

I'm typing this on a Dell laptop. They are made in the US but the components all come from all parts of the world. Every tariff on each country (which YOU will pay) means I will pay more for it. My T shirt was made in Vietnam. The tea I'm drinking now is from Sri Lanka. I just made a salmon sandwich for lunch. The salmon comes from Canada. I made the bread from Australian flour but the yeast comes from China.

We bought a new barbeque yesterday. A Weber. Some are made in the US, but some in China and Taiwan. Possibly using steel from Australia. If the US puts a tariff on our steel, then Weber in the US pays more for it to make them, then we'll place a tariff on your goods and the importer here pays yet more again.

Look, you are locked into the international trade to an extent which is difficult to convey. Arbitrarily messing about with tariffs on a whim, which is what Trump it doing, messes with world trade. Everyone suffers. Because we live in a global village. And when all the deals are done, all the tariffs are paid for, all the extras for the dongles and gizmos and materials and foodstuffs that you import are paid, the prices will rise and it's you who'll be paying the extra.
