  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Because the Constitution placed limits on Government. I just think the must have missed the part on vaccines.
If the Constitution does not place a specific limit on a given power, then that power is unlimited. There is no limit on vaccine discussion.

Lots of people probably don't know the statistics, actually. It doesn't hurt to have an informed discussion about how they save lives when a 16-year-old is getting their license for the first time, or their first motorcycle.
Gee, if only they had parents.

Wow. That really opens up the door to tyranny based on health issues.

I’m not comfortable with that. It could lead to closing stores, closing churches, closing….oh wait.

Some people don't, and not all parents are super-well-informed. Some parents come home and get sloshed and pass out and ignore the family. Some parents are anti-vaxxers who never saw what polio can do. Go see Itzak Perlman walk onstage with crutches for an example. He's a disabled man walking out, but when the crutches hit the floor and the violin comes up he owns the room.

That's the way it was written, for better or worse.

Considering that some claim to be concerned with preserving life, you'd think a Zoom meeting would be a small price to pay.

There was no actual threat. But the government acted tyrannically.

Covid killed 2% of those infected. Hundreds of thousands died just in the US. The death rate spiked dramatically, which is not a matter of fudging cause of death.
But the government acted tyrannically.
Lots of unfortunate things happened under Trump.

2% isn’t anything to be that concerned about.
Lots of unfortunate things happened under Trump.
And Biden even more.

I really don't understand why people say that. A 2% case fatality rate is several times higher than malaria.

If that number was remotely accurate, you’d be correct.

You did not dismiss the accuracy of 2% CFR for COVID-19, you dismissed concern about a disease with a 2% CFR.

Because human lives don't actually matter. This is about politics and power, not human life and liberty. My right to do whatever I want is more important than my neighbor's right to live.

Perhaps for the high and mighty, but for the ordinary citizens (ie, posters on this site), I generally thought the issue was innumeracy. People who just don't understand the odds or percentage rates. One-in-fifty odds of death are *NOT GOOD ODDS*.

My grandma used to always say "garbage in, garbage out". That's how radicalization works.

Louisiana forbids public health workers from promoting COVID, flu and mpox shots : Shots - Health News
I'll see your three vaccinations and go all in.

Louisiana health department says it will stop promoting mass vaccination. Here's what that could mean

In a surprising announcement, Louisiana's surgeon general announced late Thursday that the state health department "will no longer promote mass vaccination."

In a memo to staff members, Dr. Ralph Abraham described vaccines as "one tool in a toolbox" to combat severe illness and that conversations about specific vaccines are best held between an individual and their health care provider.

--

Dr. Paul Offit, director of the Vaccine Education Center and an attending physician in the division of infectious diseases at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, said not promoting vaccinations could lead to increased hospitalizations and deaths, especially if an outbreak of an incredibly contagious disease, such as measles, emerges.

"This sort of medical freedom notion that you do what you want, the rest of society doesn't count, your neighbor doesn't count, is at best short-sighted, and at worst sort of absents you from any sort of societal responsibility," Offit said. "Do you have any responsibility for the person you sit next to on the bus, or you stand next to on the elevator? You do and you benefit, and they benefit" from vaccines.

[Emphasis added]

Whether 'you' feel any social responsibility is up to 'you', but clearly We The People have a compelling interest in protecting ourselves.

In a surprising announcement, Louisiana's surgeon general announced late Thursday that the state health department "will no longer promote mass vaccination."
Above is from February 15th of this year.

Louisiana officials waited months to warn public of whooping cough outbreak

Whooping cough, also called pertussis, is a highly contagious vaccine-preventable disease that's particularly dangerous for the youngest infants. It can cause vomiting and trouble breathing, and serious infections can lead to pneumonia, seizures and, rarely, death.

By late January 2025, two babies had died in Louisiana.

But the Louisiana Department of Health waited two months to send out a social media post suggesting people talk to their doctors about getting vaccinated.

The department took even longer to issue a statewide health alert to physicians, send out a press release or hold a press conference.

On Feb. 13, the state's surgeon general, Ralph Abraham, sent a memo to staff ending the general promotion of vaccines and community vaccine events.

He sent that email a few hours after Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an anti-vaccine activist, won Senate confirmation as the new U.S. health and human services secretary.

Then in May — at least three months after the second infant death — the health department issued what appears to be its first and so far only official alert to physicians. It put out its first press release, and it then held a press conference about pertussis on May 14.

By then, 42 people, three-quarters of whom were not up to date on their whooping cough immunizations, had been hospitalized for whooping cough since the outbreak began, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

More than two-thirds of those hospitalized were babies under age 1.

As of Sept. 20, Louisiana had counted 387 cases of whooping cough in 2025, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The previous 35-year high was 214 cases, in 2013.

Dead babies aren't much fun.

Louisiana officials waited months to warn public of whooping cough outbreak

On Feb. 13, the state's surgeon general, Ralph Abraham, sent a memo to staff ending the general promotion of vaccines and community vaccine events.
Abraham has now scored the #2 spot at CDC.

The second-highest ranking official at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will be Dr. Ralph Abraham, the head of Louisiana's health department.

In late 2024, cases of whooping cough in Louisiana began to climb, eventually growing to 387 cases, the worst outbreak of whooping cough in the state in 35 years.

Early in the outbreak, two infants died from the disease. Infants are not eligible for their first pertussis vaccine until they're 2 months old, but they can acquire immunity if their mother was immunized while pregnant.

After the infant deaths, Abraham's health department waited three monthsbefore issuing an official alert to physicians and warning the public in a press release.

"Dr. Abraham's record shows that when an emergency in public health materializes, his instinct is to sweep it under the rug," Shah [who held the CDC post previously] said.

In the Louisiana legislature, Abraham supported bills to ban fluoride in public water systems, and to expand access to ivermectin to treat COVID, despite evidence that it is not effective against COVID. The fluoride bill failed, but the ivermectin bill passed.
