  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Witnesses, including the bus driver, told police that Rhoades and the 43-year-old victim boarded the bus at the Walmart stop at 81st and Lewis. Rhoades sat directly behind her, and they had no prior interactions or verbal exchanges. As the bus arrived at the main station, Rhoades reached around and allegedly assaulted the victim by slicing her throat before leaving the scene.

He is also being held on a fugitive warrant out of Missouri.

Man, idk why Fox and the NY Post aren’t all over this one. Maybe it’s because the victim didn’t die. Maybe it’s because her attacker is white and a fugitive from a red state. Who knows?

It's going back a few years (to Trump 1.0), but this made no more than a ripple in the national news cycle, and certainly not much of a cause celebre.

[Oregon Senator] Merkley urged President Trump to "speak out personally against the rising tide of Islamophobia and other forms of bigotry and racism in our nation that he has provoked through his numerous statements, policies and appointments"

President Trump delayed commenting on the stabbing attack, leading to public pressure on him to do so. Later, a message was posted on Trump's presidential Twitter account, stating "The violent attacks in Portland on Friday are unacceptable. The victims were standing up to hate and intolerance. Our prayers are w/ them."

Fox local reported it like ABC local reported it. Yet mainstream media like MSNBC, CNN, CBS, AP, Washington Post etc didn't. They were all over the Charlott, NC stabbing but not this. Perhaps it's because the perpetrator in the Tulsa stabbing hadn't already been arrested 14 times? Who knows?

Local outlets in NC also covered the stabbing at the time.

That’s not correct. Of the national outlets that covered it early, Fox had one unremarkable while NY Post covered it a couple times. Then the right wing rage machine caught wind of it and everybody picked it up.

He’s got a warrant in MO, so he’s been arrested for something before. I’m skeptical that a guy who could snap and stab a stranger will have never run into the cops before.

Crime has always have happened. I don't see why people are shocked. I'm more shocked that this made it on the news.

This one is more recent. I can't say I recall the original event last year (or I would have brought it up instead of the Portland one). But it was certainly covered in local media. And now the guilty verdict. Perp was a self-confessed homeless meth addict.

Man who stabbed woman in the throat as they rode L.A. Metro is found guilty of murder

A 45-year-old man who was banned from L.A. Metro trains for past violent acts was convicted Monday in the 2024 stabbing death of a woman on a B Line train who was on her way home from an overnight shift.

Elliot Tramel Nowden offered no reaction as the jury in downtown L.A. found him guilty of murder and robbery in the killing of Mirna Soza Arauz, 67, at the Universal City station in April 2024.

Soza Arauz was working nights as she saved up money to buy a home in her native Nicaragua. She was on her way home from a shift as a security guard at an Original Tommy’s hamburger restaurant in North Hills when Nowden approached her with two knives, stabbed her in the throat and stole her bag, authorities said.

Story doesn't say whether she was here legally or not, so she may not have been an innocent woman in some people's eyes.
