  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

According to Deuteronomy 13, the way that God instructed to determine that someone is a false prophet who is not speaking for Him is if they teach against obeying the Torah.
Paul taught against obeying the Torah. The necessity to be circumcised to enter into God’s covenant, the dietary laws, and observing the sabbaths are just a few examples.

Was that not strengthening the position of the Jews while telling the other tribes of the House of Israel they need not apply any more? The Jews looked down upon their brethren.

It is either incorrect to interpret Paul as speaking against obeying the Torah (my position) or he was a false prophet, but either way followers of Christ should be followers of his example of obedience to the Torah.

One thing that some Christians end up being perplexed over is the hypothetical "Q" document. I think this is another area of false teaching, but more subtle. The latest Biblical research suggests this document doesn't exist (see for instance Eta Linnemann's books on the topic). Further study suggests the "synoptic problem" so called is the invention of Lessing.

Each of the Evangelists gives his version of the gospel aimed at certain audiences. The four Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John have been likened to four spotlights:

Thomas Smail has written:

"The dark stage of Calvary is swept by four penetrating Gospel searchlights, each of which picks out a series of sometimes coinciding and sometimes diverging details in a way that builds up the kind of picture of the crucified Christ that each evangelist wants us to see...We defeat their intention if, in the interests of constructing a unified story, we too quickly try to superimpose these pictures upon each other". (Quoted in the Message of the Cross - Bible Speaks Today Series)

Jesus kept the entire Torah. Is circumcision still required to enter into to the New Covenant? Are we still expected to observe the dietary laws and sabbath days?

Why must everyone follow what another does? If torah observance seems right to you then do it. But you can’t lay your preference on others.

There’s another option, maybe God made a new covenant with new expectations.

I don’t understand what you mean. Can you please elaborate?

Observing the Torah definitely isn’t frowned upon in the scriptures

I was responding to his statement not its validity. He’s messianic and most christians aren’t nor do they follow the torah.

Another false teaching was that of Ludwig Feuerbach. Feuerbach only professed to be a "friend of religion" but he wrote books such as the Essence of Christianity, which gave rise to "christian atheism". Basically he denied God's transcendence, and much of christian doctrine, but kept "christian love". 19th century forms of christianity still linger in some mainline churches. Rationalism can still be present in even congregations that think of themselves as evangelical. I think people can also end up reacting to it and going after the more dramatic and supernaturalistic forms of christianity, or else getting into New Age teachings.

Rejection of the authentic christian supernatural, leads to rationalistic christianity, and then eventually with some writers leads into occult mixtures, eg. the writings of Carl Jung or some of his disciples such as Morton Kelsey who promoted a synthesis of Jungian spirituality and Christian theology, far removed from the more orthodox reflections on Jung in the writings of Father Victor White.

Are you referring to licensing?
Hello bella. There are many 'testimonies' of former Christian Contemporary Music artists online who 'deconstructed' or 'came-out', but the most surprising thing is that many secretly deconstructed years before they publicly announced this. The reason they often give is the paycheck, CCM is so lucrative that they don't want to lose the income stream, it's a captive, very uncritical audience.

'Licensing' is a term it hides behind, but monetizing the worship of God is the modus operandi.

Acts 8:20 But Peter said to him, “Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money!"

Jesus drove out the money changers in the temple, selling indulgences provoked the Reformation. IMHO it's high time some of the faithful stood up to those charging money for the worship of God.

God Bless You :)

There’s probably things in their contract they’re not admitting. Especially pertaining to copyright. Musicians don’t have as much control as you might assume nor do they own their music until they buy the masters. Prince addressed the problem and advised artists not to sign. The label owns your name and likeness.

This isn’t a situation where that’s the lone option available. They’re choosing music under those terms and I wouldn’t consider it simony. Nor do I believe christians are obligated to make their products and services free of use for the church. It‘s a 501c3 entity that benefits from numerous loopholes. The laborer is worthy of his wages and I wouldn’t expect anyone to forgo that right unless it‘s their decision.
