• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

.... you're going down the "No you!" route? Really? How old are you?
I thought my riposte was fair and reasonable.

How come I have provide evidence that it's "objectively irrational", but you don't have to provide any evidence that it's "subjectively irrational"?

No, you don't know. The true history of life on earth could be vastly different to what the fossil record reveals.

No, we know about the true history.

Plenty of facts that give us an insight to what happened.

You were making comments about irrational ideas and you appear to be claiming that if you don't have complete details it's reasonable to just ignore evidence... and that is irrational.

We will never know who live four houses down from Ea-nāṣir the copper trader, but it would be silly, irrational even, to claim we know nothing about ancient Mesopotamia.

If not 100%, what is the percentage? You can't even hazard a guess, bcoz you have no idea and no way of knowing.

Nonsense.

Why don't you accept the use of evidence and inference? It's how basically every investigation works. You don't let murderers free if the prosecution can't explain what they had for lunch the day after.

No, it was childish.

I'm not the one making the claim that the theory of evolution is irrational, either subjectively or objectively. That is 100% you and you alone, thus the onus on providing evidence is squarely on you only.

As I said, you certainly know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em ..."

Or maybe I want to stick the general OP topic and not get bogged down in useless arguments about theology.

Fair enough.

Just so you know, here is a list of Jonathan Wells' Icons of Evolution:
  1. Miller-Urey experiment
  2. Darwin's tree of life
  3. Homology in vertebrate limbs
  4. Haeckel's embryos
  5. Archaeopteryx
  6. Peppered moth
  7. Darwin's finches
  8. Four-winged fruit flies
  9. Fossil horses
  10. Hominid evolution

And I gave my response in post #25.

Cute.

But you're not any kind of Christian, right?

At least, according to your profile.
Not any more. I'm a "Bible-hating, Christ denying commie" (an Anglican) and my clergy are "blasphemous perverts" under the present administration. The DOJ has a task force working to formalize it, and you can even call me that in this forum and get away with it. :)

I'm with Warden.

Let's stick to the OP, shall we?

That is the OP. It's always the OP--"You're not a real Christian, or you must be an atheist, or you hate America, or whatever, because you don't believe the Bible."

Am I an Anglican if I don't believe the Book of Common Prayer?

The Book of Common Prayer is not Scripture, but it contains scriptural passages to be read during religious services. An Anglican must take them seriously as the Word of God, but not necessarily literally.

Oh, so tell me, how do you know that every kind of organism that ever existed left fossilised remains and is represented in the fossil record?

And how do you know that those organisms existed only in the time periods apparent in the fossil record?

No, you don't know. The true history of life on earth could be vastly different to what the fossil record reveals.
If it is, it is up to someone (you, someone else?) to demonstrate that to be the case, until then what is proposed w/o evidence can be dismissed.
