destruction - recontsruction - destruction.
Here are several notable examples of things that were rebuilt only to be destroyed again later:

The Royal Exchange, London: Originally opened in 1571, it was destroyed by fire in 1666, rebuilt, then destroyed again by fire in 1838 before being rebuilt a third time.

Kumamoto Castle, Japan: Severely damaged in 1877, rebuilt in the 1960s, and then seriously damaged again during the 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes.

Shuri Castle, Okinawa: Destroyed during World War II, reconstructed in the 1990s, and then destroyed again by fire in 2019.

Temple of Artemis, Ephesus: One of the Seven Wonders, destroyed by arson in 356 BC, rebuilt, and later damaged again by raids and earthquakes.

St. Paul's Cathedral, London: Destroyed multiple times by fire, rebuilt after the Great Fire of London in 1666, and damaged again during World War II.

Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion), Kyoto: Burned down by arson in 1950, rebuilt in 1955, and has faced further threats since.

These examples highlight the cycle of destruction and reconstruction that many historic sites and buildings have endured over centuries.

That is correct. I have always been fascinated with Japanese carpentry and architecture. It is amazing how Japanese structures that were built out of wood hundreds of years ago are still standing. Their joints doesn't use any nails or screws.

Unfortunately, i have not had the opportunity yet. But it is definitely on my wishlist. When I was in high-school, I built a solid red oak dining room set for my parents using the Japanese carpentry style. It is still in their dining room today.

I would love to go back and see Kyoto. But Im kind of glad I skipped it and Tokyo for my first trip. Most of the places I went were not huge international tourism destinations and I really enjoyed the lack of crowds and fuss, while still seeing amazing things. Plus, crossing the land on the bike you are really in it.

I agree. Avoid tourist traps and order from the Japanese menu because it is cheaper.
