I was on another Christian forum and someone wanted to mock me by calling me a “newspaper prophet” since I was connecting current events to Biblical prophecies. But I thought about it and current events have had a big impact on Biblical doctrines for the entire church age. So I have decided to own it.

  1. Consider WW2 and the use of the atomic bomb. Prior to that bomb we could not understand what we were reading in the book of Revelation and some of the Prophecies.
  2. Consider 1948 when the Jews returned to Israel based on the vote of the UN. Prior to that many Bible teachers were teaching that all the prophecies about Israel during the last days were allegorical. It is very clear if you check your Bible teaching and doctrines they change as a result of current events.
  3. Consider JN Darby’s teaching on the Great Babylon being the Catholic church. In the 1800s that was by far the best guess. The US was not being described in Revelation 18 in any way. However, today, to say that all the merchants of the world will mourn if the US were destroyed, that fits, to say that the US is sitting on seven continents, that fits, to compare the US to Sodom and Gomorrah, that fits. So once again, current events changes our doctrines and teachings. We are foolish if we are not looking at the current events.

  1. Consider the Covid19 Pandemic. Many argue that we have had global pandemics before, for example the Spanish flu. This is true. So why do I argue that this pandemic is the one that Joel is talking about? “1:2 Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?” Let’s begin with the Spanish flu in 1918. There was no global shutdown of business and travel in 1918. They did not realize this had been a pandemic until the 1970s when someone looking at death records around the world calculated that it was. Joel is not saying that people getting sick and dying from the flu is what has never been. He is saying that God declaring a sabbath for the entire world, that was what had never happened. He is saying that a “bug” that is like Frankenstein, as though five different bugs were stitched together to shut down the economy, that is what has never happened before. Covid19 was made in a bioweapons lab.

I don't place much stock in "newspaper prophecy," even if I think the book of Revelation still has some bearing on our world today.

There have been a number of plagues in the world over the past 2,000 years alone, not the least of which was the Black Plague during the 1300's, so I wouldn't place too much stock in the Covid19 pandemic as being somehow utterly outstanding all by itself as a plague. It does have some significance, though, as a catalyst for social machinations.

I agree that individually any one of these could not carry all that much weight. But when you put them together and calculate the compound probability of all them happening then the odds go through the roof.

For example, take Israel returning to the land in 1948. You might think we have around 200 countries so even though we have never seen this before we can still argue the odds are 1 in 200. But that is not all that the prophecy said, it said this nation would be birthed in a single day. The odds of that happening would have been astronomical prior to the UN being formed, but the UN forming was also prophesied. So if you want to include that then instead of 1 in 200 the odds are 100 times greater, so 1 in 20,000. But the prophecy was even more specific describing the Jews that return as walking corpses, the exact image we got of Jews walking out of the concentration camps. So we have three things we had never seen before that all had to take place, for the prophecy to be fulfilled. I would argue the odds are 1 out of 200x200x200. That is 1 in 8,000,000. But that is not all to the prophecy, the prophecy described them returning to a wasteland and then turning it into the garden of Eden. We have seen empires like Egypt and Babylon turn their land from a garden into a wasteland, but we have never seen it the other way around. Read Mark Twain's account and it stands as a testimony that the word of God is true. I would argue that the odds of that one prophecy being fulfilled is at least 1 in 80,000,000. But then add the atomic bomb, and add the US emerging as the Great Babylon. That is my point, with each event the odds of all these things simply being a coincidence becomes more and more absurd.

I wasn't necessarily or even fully disagreeing with your first points, just the overall significance of your third point.

Consider Hamas attacking Israel in 2023. I have argued that this attack was prophesied about in Psalm 83. You might say that Israel has been attacked many times. Egypt in the six day war, Syria, Lebanon, Palestinians, they have all attacked prior to this. That is true, but in Psalm 83 the prophecy is very specific of all the various ethnic groups and nations that would attack. In all of human history this is the first time in history that they have all attacked. Psalm 83 concludes that they will be turned to chaff never to attack again. So not only is this the first time in history that this prophecy could be fulfilled, but after this time it can never be fulfilled at a later time without violating the prophecy.

Yes, I see that now. I'll correct what I mean to say: I wasn't necessarily or even fully disagreeing with your first points, just the overall significance of your third and fourth points.

We also don't know WHO 'Mystery, Babylon the Great' is. I tend toward thinking it's everything in the Middle-East since the rise of Islam.

But I don't know that. I can see how some folks might think it's the U.S., but my posture leans away from that interpretation.

Well there is a lot that we do know. First Babylon the Great is destroyed in one hour and when they are destroyed all the merchants of the earth mourn because no one will buy their goods anymore. So that cannot be a reference to the Vatican. If the Vatican were destroyed some people might mourn, but it wouldn't be the merchants, nor would you think that the Vatican being destroyed would have a big impact on people buying anything from merchants anymore. It also can't be Israel or Europe since they are not destroyed in one hour and instead are there to the very end of the seven years. If China were destroyed in one hour that would have a very big impact on the world, but not so much for the merchants. China is primarily an exporter. If they were destroyed this would mean much more business for all the merchants who were not destroyed. We also can eliminate all the countries that existed at the time of Israel. Even in prophesies that apply all the way to the end of the age the Bible refers to them by recognizable names like God, Magog, Edom, Philistia, etc. Now this "Mystery, Babylon the Great" must be a superpower because it says she made all the nations to drink from her cup. China is a superpower but even today they don't make all the nations drink from their cup. Multinational corporations like Google, Microsoft, Coca Cola, and McDonalds do. During the Pandemic we made the whole world use vaccines we manufactured and by definition that is a reference to sorcery. Finally we are told that it is the great city that reigns over the whole earth. The term is "King Dollar" and it does reign over the whole earth and on that dollar you see a reference to the city of Washington DC.

How much World History have you studied? I'm just wondering because your interpretive deliberations seem to run along the line of those I was wrestling with about 30 years ago.

My interest is the Bible but often studying the Bible involves studying world history.

Here is the sixth point -- Consider the Lord’s prophecy that the fig tree will sprout again as a sign that summer is near and that this generation shall not pass away until all the things He mentioned in Matthew 24 were fulfilled. In Psalm 90 Moses says that a generation is 70 years, 80 if you are strong (meaning rebellious). We all know that a generation doesn’t simply keel over on their 70th or 80th birthday. However, if he was referring to decades, then 70 equals 65 to 74, and 80 equals 75 to 84. 2023 was 75 years after Israel was reformed. Psalm 83 gives us the start of the ten year judgment on the rebellious ones in Israel that will conclude by May of 2032. Either you believe in coincidences or you believe the word of God is being fulfilled. I don't believe in coincidences.

Here is the seventh point -- In the 1980s I was fellowshipping with some Christians about the end of the age and we could not imagine how anyone could control the whole world to buy and sell only with the mark of the beast. We thought, what about someone in a small village in Africa, or Asia, or South America. So we concluded that the prophecy in Revelation was only talking about Europe. But today the entire globe is covered with a network of satellites by Starlink, a quantum computer and AI along with Starlink could be a global system. Today we can imagine this, especially since we have RFID technology that can be put into your hand. We also couldn’t understand why this “mark” would make it impossible to be saved, it seemed like a credit card. But now we have neuralink that can connect your brain to an AI overlord. So think about that, we could read what John had written, this was only 45 years ago and we still couldn’t see it. Today everyone can see it.

Here is the 8th point -- In Daniel we were told that the final human empire would be unlike all the others with miry clay and iron mingled. No one knew what that meant. In Revelation we see the “Beast” rising from the sea. We don’t see it fully risen when the day of the Lord begins. Today we see AI rising out of the nations. We see robots, drones, quantum computers, Starlink, Neuralink and AI all hooked up together. We don’t see it fully rising, but we can see it rising right now. We can see AI and robots taking every job, we can see robots, drones and AI fighting these wars in the Middle East and Ukraine. Now imagine this, suppose we didn’t see the first seven points on this list, this last point might be a “coincidence”. Likewise if we saw the first seven points but didn’t see this point you could argue that we need to see the Beast rising out of the sea first. But we do see it, we see all 8 points and together the odds of this being “coincidence” is well over a trillion to 1.

The prophecy is the stone falling in the pond.

The recurring news headlines that mimic bible passages are the ripples.

This means that either they lead to the stone, or the stone has fallen already, and we're just seeing an established pattern.

Sure we have had numerous attempts at human empires that are ripples from Cain and the fall of man. But the final one will be different from all others. We have never seen an empire that relies on robots, drones and AI.

Here is the ninth point: Now consider another prophecy, Jesus said we would hear of wars and rumors of war. That must have been a strange prophecy in His day. But after the printing press we began to get newspapers with international news. The ability for using rumors as a psyop increased. With the radio this increased exponentially. This was demonstrated by “War of the World’s” radio broadcast where many of those who heard it thought we were under attack by aliens. Then the TV increased this exponentially again with the ability to “mesmerize” people. Then with the internet and social media rumors continued to grow exponentially and were used as a psyop. Obama used the internet masterfully to get elected president and from that moment on the internet became a masterful technique to manipulate people with rumors. Then with Trump we first heard the term “Fake News”. As a result cynicism has also grown exponentially. In the US they feel the JFK assassination was a pivotal moment where the people began to mistrust the government.
