If you follow the Vatican you will find he invites huge crowds of the homeless to the Vatican at Christmas or Easter for a feast. I think they may stay overnight.
One Holy Thursday he visited a women's prison and washed the feet of Muslim women. When he was well he rode the bus to the boarding house where he lived.
When he was the head of the Jesuit order, he was complicit with brutal dictators in Argentina, somewhat like Milei, I imagine. He thought he needed to court the enemy to protect the Church.
After the revolution, he was in isolation for a number of years. He learned that the Church does not court the Mileis, Erdagons, Netanyahus, Trumps and Musks of the world. The Church preaches the truth boldly--as Bishop Budde did. The Church stands in solidarity with the poor, displaced, refugees, hated, and sorrowful.
In his years of seclusion, he became the luminous prophetic voice who leads the Church today.
He's afflicting the comfortable--as he should.

Inconsistent statement from Pope Francis, whom I generally support on everything.

Was anything like that done when Obama was deporting millions?
I remember citizenship workshops...but Obama started the Dreamer program that Republicans fought in the courts and railed against. Republicans seem so angry all the time that these innocent young people happened to toddle across the border when the guards were looking straight ahead.
The dreamers I know are solid citizens. More mature, because they have had to translate for their parents and help them through life. More religious, because faith is all their families have to cling to. Teachers. Nurses. Welders. Homeowners. Parents.
So Obama, by contrast, was tough but fair. Trump's rhetoric implies they are all criminals and racists.
Using one if his phrases, he has weaponized ICE, but even worse, weaponized hatred.

We are holding workshops so immigrants know their rights. They are filling out authorizations so if they are deported during the school day their children are not thrown into foster care. They have had a meeting at the biggest Catholic church, and are having several immigration lawyers come and speak.
We took up a collection to pay the lawyers, who are very reasonable but need some expenses covered.
It doesn't sound very humane to me.
They are looking for board members but my Spanish is minimal and I am on a few boards already. I will help here and there.
Do you lock your doors at night, if so, why?

No, not always.
But there are tons of home-grown gun owners here, and probably some Proud Boys. Downright scary. Maybe I should.

To me it is just organized showmanship and authoritarianism. I personally do not like over-reaching government. Biden did it with Covid shots and harboring illegals. Trump now doing it with unconstitutional executive orders. (Birthright citizenship for instance) and uneeded bureaucratic action. Just another flavor of government overreach. Even if just a tiff it plants a seed and introduces enemies.
OK. Homan did something unprofessional and it was organized showmanship and maybe even authoritarian. I'll give you that. Pope Francis did the same thing. He has a duty to speak about mercy towards refugees. But he made it political, as he has long done with things touching the USA. The two of them deserve each other in this matter. His Holiness is not always acting very holy.

I figured it was a when Obama deported millions it was okay, but when Trump does it it's pure evil scenario.

So when you do lock your doors, you do so because you don't want unwanted people from just entering freely.

The same goes for our nation. Those who come across the border are entering illegally and need to be deported.

The Holy Family fled to Egypt as refugees. Imagine if Trump had been Pharaoh guarding the gates. Salvation derailed!
I understand that there is rampant disinformation about immigrants. Statistically they commit fewer crimes than the general population.
The current president campaigned on hate and fear, of LGBTQ and immigrants. The typical immigrants are young marrieds with slightly more children than the rest of us. Churchgoing--that's a historic and current trait of immigrants.
Yes, there are bad immigrants--and bad native-born Americans.
In the same vein, lots of LGBTQ are parents, workers, professionals. My cousin's son adopted twin boys with his partner. They are loved and enjoying a happy secure childhood.
I don't decide who is good or bad based on the fear-mongering of political candidates. I learn for myself, through relationships with diverse friends.
Immigrants are almost all good people with bad options in untenable situations.
Like my grandparents...or yours.
The current round up and deportation is of CRIMINALS . It is false to say Trump campaigned on hate and fear the truth is the hate and fear was directed at Trump. One simple question on the LGBTQ issue. Do you look at that issue through the lense of specific scripture that clearly states God’s position on that ?

What's being done now that's inhumane?
Don't know yet. Ice has making arrests but I haven't seen who play are getting. Are they getting good hard working immigrants or going after gang members?

The Vatican needs to open its borders then. Lead by example.
The Vatican does open it's borders. They have an open borders agreement with Italy. Of course Italy doesn't have open borders with the world so one first has to be in Italy legally in order to enter the Vatican.

Tourists are welcome to come in to all unrestricted areas, without passports. Thousands enter every day.

In the immigration debate I have yet to see many even try to walk holy in this area. Some just want open borders, others want all illegals removed plus even some with potential refugee status. Even the way the USA or many other Western nations handle tourist visas are often ungodly because the processing is not done with equal criteria and timeliness.

We listened to a long letter from our bishop at church today. He is very much in favor of protecting immigrants.
He voted third party in the presidential election, a position I respect.

Our Bishop said that a nation needs to protect its borders, then in the same breath he
talks about being compassionate and forgiving to illegal immigrants.

If I could've asked him, I would've asked if they lock the chancery building at night, if so, why?

It's seems to be a contradiction in telling the government it has a right to protect it's borders,
but then do virtually nothing with those who cross into the country illegally.

Bishop Barron on immigration;

Why can't we solve this? The Democrats and the Republicans could have solved this particular problem ten years ago. They didn't want to because the Democrats wanted a little bit more in their direction and the Republicans wanted a little bit more in their direction. And since it wasn't so very critical, they put it off to argue their positions later on. Then came Biden, and the floodgates opened. Then came Trump and we'll see if the floodgates close. The Democrats and the Republicans will posture on and obstruct and put off until they are forced to do something. Maybe this year they will do something. Or not. In the mean time the Vatican came up with a strong law on illegal immigration and border security. Maybe the USA could copy parts of that law and we could have secure borders again. Pope Francis could hardly complain.

And because of Biden, this is what we're up against today.

Homan shows himself to be an amateur rather than a true statesman, because he violated the very thing the American founders and various Supreme Courts have ruled on in the past concerning the separation of church and state. He throws stones and takes sides against the Catholic church. It is not necessary nor is it the act of a true statesman to respond by pointing out negative things in a religion. It does not matter if it is true or not, it was simply unnecessary and incendiary. If Holman fights back against certain Catholic beliefs, it opens the door for the US government officials to decide on what other religious stances are correct or incorrect. A better approach would be to suggest he is simply following the law; no religious overture is even needed.
The pope publicly threw himself into the controversy.
Homan was just responding back, with truth.

I did not see it at all as an 'attack' against the Catholic Church.
But a criticism of this pope's current leadership of the Church? Yes.

How does that saying go? "People living in glass houses shouldn't throw stones."
The pope is throwing stones, while living in a glass house ... and that was Homan's point.
I had no problem with Homan making it.

This pope likes to play 'hardball' against his perceived adversaries with media comments.
With this new administration, he's gonna get the ball thrown back at him just as 'hard' ...
because the future of America is at stake now.

Key word, "invites." Is it good and generous to invite someone in need into your house and give him a meal? Sure. If you don't, does that make it right for him to break in and squat? No.

I think you should compare US immigration laws and the newly enacted immigration laws of the Vatican. At the Vatican they take illegal entry seriously. So seriously that they imprison illegal entrants, not just deporting them. The Vatican tells us that we are supposed to be merciful to illegal aliens but they are harsh to illegal aliens, arresting and convicting and imprisoning them when it happens in their own territory.

If this WERE a matter of doctrine or moral teaching the Vatican law that applies to Vatican territory would be the same as the woke liberals in the USA are demanding. But it's not. Pope Francis has a political opinion that was in resonance with Biden and the wokists. We DO have an obligation to refugees and immigrants BUT how we accomplish that obligation is a matter of prudent choice. The wokists are NOT being prudent. And pope Francis is being prudent with respect to Vatican territory but not US territory. In Vatican territory they arrest illegal aliens who sneak into their territory.

As I am not Catholic, I do not place significant emphasis on the statements or actions of any pope.

However, it appears that many Catholics currently disregard the statements or actions of the Pope, which is noteworthy.
