How long does it take to figure out what doctrine to believe?

I want to find out whether eternal security is really true. I want to believe yes. There are people however who claim to have lost their faith, they say it was due to sin and they can no longer believe anymore even if they want to. That is concerning to hear, and also then there are those who simply just stopped believing.

How can we believe in eternal security with these kind of testimony?

If a person understands it is belief in Jesus that gives them God's free gift of Eternal Life salvation and they have believed in Jesus for Eternal Life. They are a permanent born again child of God.

Now the people you are speaking of. i have no idea who their belief was in. Themselves and something they did or in Jesus.

We don't base our faith on the testimonies of others. We base our faith on what is written in the Word of God (Bible).
Those persons you've mentioned? We do not know if they were ever truly born again.
But once we are born again, we remain a loved child of God forever.

You can't.
It is a false doctrine anyway, so, no loss.
Jesus said that those who endure until the end would be saved.
Matt 24:13..."But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved."
Everyday is a test to remain victorious.
Thankfully though, God has provided the ways and means of that victory.
One instance is 1 Cor 10:13..."There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.'

Look at the cross and see what Jesus done there, and you will know salvation cannot be lost.

How one knows they are saved? Matthew 7 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

The only evidence of salvation is the Holy Spirit. By the fruit of the Spirit one knows. Do you produce fruit?

As for others, sometimes you can tell, but many times you won't.

For example, someone who confesses to be a Christian but then lives the sames sinful life as before, is not saved, becuase the Spirit transforms the believer who in time resembles Christ more and more.

I think what is happening in some of these cases is that the Christian in question gets attached to a specific sin or sins they don't want to give up, and then when the Christian community disapproves of their misdeeds, they just "give up their faith" and walk away because they don't want the fire of disapproval of others.

In truth, they still believe the Gospel and think Christ is the rightful authority of the universe, they just don't want the scrutiny of the Christian community on their embarrassing failings. So they just pretend to be an unbeliever to avoid being criticized. They will be back when they realize the hollowness of their sin and leave it behind, but they want to make that decision themselves as opposed to having other people make that decision for them.

Eternal security is a false doctrine and has led many to destruction. Scripture warns over and over to " stay the course ". Why? Because there is such a thing as apostasy. If one refuses to consider that it is not possible to apostatize, then they are ignorant of the Gospel of truth.
Blessings

For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.
Hebrews 6:4-6

Salvation will be granted on the last day.
To say you already have it, usurps God's judgement.

Believe God. Listen to Jesus with thankfulness and Trust. Don't listen to man's religions.

Dilute truth, or opposed to truth, man's religions bring brokenness , pain and sorrow, not salvation, not life; certain judgment!

Beliefs can change under pressure, or over time.
Ananias and Sapphira come to mind.

Salvation, being saved, happens when we believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. When the jailer at Philippi asked what he had to do to be saved, the apostles replied:

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.” (Ac 16:31 NKJV)

Also, Paul wrote to the Christians at Ephesus:

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; [it is] the gift of God,” (Eph 2:8 NKJV)

Thus Written: He who endures to the end will be saved.

Many fall away, and are not saved.

For those who quit believing, they cannot cling to believing they still have salvation.
Conversion must be manifested throughout a man's life.

Where in the Scripture does it say that? One becomes saved the moment Jesus Christ says 'your sins are forgiven'.

To say you already have it, usurps God's judgement.
Let's have a look at what happened at the cross.

Jesus Christ died and paid for sins of every believer. Either Christ is your Saviour, He washed your sins, paid for them fully, He reconciles you to God...or He did not.
This does not depend on us, but on God alone. There's nothing we can do about it, only to pray God to have mercy on us.

Only a Christian who is full of the Holy Spirit can endure to the end. Without the Holy Spirit we stand no chance.

Salvation does not depend on us or the way we live, but on God alone. If it depended on us, we would all fail and there would be no need of the gospel.

Either Christ is your Saviour, died and paid for your sin, or He did not. This does not depend on us, but on God alone.

I'm sick of Christians constantly saying that Salvation can be lost and it depends on the way we live. It's false gospel.
