The Duelists (1977). Ridley Scott's first feature film. It stars Harvey Keitel and Keith Carradine as two cavalry officers in Napoleon's Grande Armee. Keitel plays a bully who constantly challenges Carradine's character to duels. The movie shows excellent sword techniques and is a rare movie set in Napoleonic Europe that doesn't feature Napoleon.
The movie is based on a story by Joseph Conrad called "The Duel" or "A Point of Honor". The story is an excellent read if you can't see the film.

Just started watching Star Trek The Next Generation. Never seen Star Trek before. Starting on season 3 because I heard that is when the show starts getting really good. Also the series seems more episodic, so starting later in the series isn't a big deal.

Really enjoying it so far. I like how the tone of the characters is pretty over all rational and calm. Feels like you're dealing with intelligent adults discussing things in a quiet manner. I will say Data's voice and mannerisms really remind me of Niles Crane from Fraiser. Really curious if his performance on the show was heavily inspired by the Data character. I do know Brent Spiner himself made a guest appearance on Fraiser once. I also like that late 80s early 90s TV vibe. Kind of corny at times, but it's refreshing.

Almost done with season 3 of The Next Generation. Kind of surprised how racist the Klingons appear to be. I guess even a liberal minded show in the past has outdated thinking.

I like documentaries. I just finished "The Pacific" on DVD. It was an HBO miniseries, released in 2010, which follows the 1st Marine Division's WWII combat with Japanese soldiers entrenched on various south Pacific islands, i.e., Guadalcanal, Peleliu, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. Each of the actors portrayed real Marines who fought in those battles. It's a 6 disc series, which I bought for $3 at an estate sale. It's definitely worth watching

Have a sudden thirst for documentaries about the medieval ages.

A time period previously I cared very little for.

Have you ever read Gargantua and Pantagruel? Francois Rabelais lived from the late 14th to early 15th centuries. Aside from being an author, he was also a physician and priest. G and P is his best known work, and is totally hilarious. In the famous Chapter XIII, Gargantua tells his father Pantagruel, of all the different means he's used to wipe his rear end--such as leaves, flowers, vegetables, feathers, various kinds of cloths, and many other wipes. But the best he found was a goose's neck. And a live goose at that. The curved neck of the goose, and the warmth of the bird's body is the most perfect and soothing way to clean his hindgut. I doubt the goose likes it very much. But the entire novel is great middle-ages humor. I think it's much better than Chaucer's Canterbury Tales which were written a century earlier.

Red One isn't as bad as some are saying. The best parts are the the mythology aspects with Santa, Krampus, and Gryla. The character of Jack could have been written a lot better, but he does have nice moments with his son at the end. Seeing The Rock become small and big like Ant-Man during fights was funny.

Been watching True Crime on YouTube.

I like how trashy the presentation of some of these True Crime content is presented. My favorite is probably of a thumbnail for a True Crime video of these teenagers who are being questioned for a murder showing one of them crying with the text "I want my mommy!" Displayed on the side.

The questionable and probably wrong body language commentary is amusing too.
