I have read the Catholic Church has no official position on Genesis 6 but many priests hold to the Sethite view.

You seem to have a list of reasons why this couldn’t happen but it did! We had giants before and after the flood and in both cases God wanted them eliminated . The question should not be why it happened because it did the question should more importantly be why did God want them wiped out.?

The "coneheads"? I've heard of elongated skulls before. But where it's attributed to ritual head binding. They bind the head of an infant so the soft skull becomes elongated. Just like one culture keeps adding thick metal rings to the neck to make it abnormally long. Or plates increasing in size to make the lower lip abnormally big.

Yes some cultures altered skulls but I doubt those same cultures artificially created giants.

It does not say after the flood. You are reading that into the verse.
There were nephilim on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.
The verse is saying nephilim were on the earth after the sons of God saw and married daughters of men and bore children to them (the sons of God). that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose.

I actually saw that once. I think they probably got inspiration from the Book of Enoch and perhaps Jewish folklore.

It is fairly simple where in the verse does the verse say the nephilim were on the earth after the flood.

There were nephilim on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.
