  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Zechariah wrote to the Jews in the second year of Darius the Great (520 AD). At this time, 18 years had already passed since Cyrus authorized the return of the Jews to the Promised Land to resettle the cities and rebuild Jerusalem. Many of the Diaspora did not return being that they had comfortable lives in the lands of their exile. Zechariah wanted to encourage them to leave those lands behind and go to the place God designated for them. He indicated that there would be a time when those shepherds that ruled over them would begin oppressing the Jews and God would not prevent them (chapter 11). This fits the context of Jews of modern and postmodern history, would you not agree?

While there is more that can be said about Zechariah’s messages to the exiles, I wanted to focus on the prophecies of the latter passages to see what it says about Jews today.

Chapter 8: Zion will again dwell in Jerusalem (vs 3). Judah and Israel will become a blessing among the nations (vs 13). People will come back and settle in the cities (vs 20).

Chapter 9: Neighboring nations (Damascus, Hamath, Tyre, Sidon, Ashkelon, Gaza, and Earon will be dispossessed (vs 1-7). God will no longer let an oppressor pass over them and will increase their dominion (vs 8-10). Exiles will return and Israel will become unstoppable in military combat, especially against the Philistines (vs 11-15). God will personally save Israel and restore them (vs 16-17).

Chapter 10: God will punish the nations that oppressed the exiles and bless Judah & Israel. Assyria will be brought low and Egypt will lose its influence. Israel will conquer and settle in the lands of Lebanon and Gilead (Southern Lebanon and Golan Heights). Israel will be blessed and unstoppable, encouraging exiles to return from the lands they were raised in.

Chapter 11: The exiles that refuse to return at this point will be oppressed by the “shepherds” that watch over them. This will drive them to return to Jerusalem or perish. An interesting thing about this chapter is it is the last time the words Israel or Ephraim are used in Zechariah’s prophecies. This indicates the northern territories come under the occupation of a worthless leader in Lebanon that cares nothing for the people he governs but will devour them for his own benefit.

Chapter 12: God gathers all the surrounding peoples that hate the Jews to besiege Jerusalem. There God will destroy them after causing a spiritual revival in Jerusalem. The outcome of this revival is forgiveness and repentance.

Chapter 13: This, I believe, is when the temple, the fountain in verse 1, will be rebuilt and opened. The false prophets that worked for the “shepherds” will be purged from the land as a result of the spiritual revival in the land. In keeping with Ezekiel 34 (a prophecy about Israel’s shepherd and sheep), the shepherds of Israel and the sheep will be exposed to tribulation. Two-thirds will be cut off and perish in the land and a third will be refined.

Chapter 14: This prophecy looks forward to the day that Jesus, the good shepherd that is the fulfillment of the Branch prophecy, will return and deliver His afflicted flock, destroying with a plague all those that tried to destroy them.

If you haven’t noticed yet, all these prophecies, up to chapter 12 have been fulfilled. God bought Zion back to Israel in 1948 and restored all of Jerusalem to her in 1967 (chapter 8), taking possession of West Bank (E)/Golan Heights (N), Gaza Strip (W), and
Sinai Peninsula (chapters 9-10). Exiles have since come from all over the world to settle in the land of Israel. This was delayed after the Oslo Accords returned the Gaza Strip and parts of the West Bank back to Palestine. When Hamas was elected in 2005, the territory was blockaded by Israel in effort to starve the terrorist regime of resources. They decided instead to starve their own people and use the resources to build underground tunnels to conduct military operations against Israel. This came to a head on October 7, 2023 when Hamas invaded Israel and slaughtered innocent civilians at a music festival. This spurred the desolation now occurring in Gaza and the war brewing with Hezbollah. Israel‘s determination to destroy Hamas has brought all the surrounding nations harboring Islamic jihadists armed by Iran and their allies against Israel at Jerusalem for the sake of the Al Aqsa Mosque and Muslim control of the Temple Mount. Hezbollah‘s pride is being brought low as we speak, as they reel from the sabotaged pager attack today.

If my interpretation is correct, I anticipate that Hezbollah’s leader Hassan Nasrallah will soon be eliminated by Israel. This will cause war with Hezbollah that will bring about the destruction of Damascus, Tyre, and Sidon. I anticipate after this that all the regimes that call for the annihilation of Israel will invade Israel and surround Jerusalem. We could reasonably see this within the year.

Hopefully, this pager attack does not lead to the End Times. I need a few more years to mature, and then spread the Gospel to people. The End Times seem to have gotten worse since the 2020s or so.

Chapter 12: God gathers all the surrounding peoples that hate the Jews to besiege Jerusalem. There God will destroy them after causing a spiritual revival in Jerusalem. The outcome of this revival is forgiveness and repentance.
In my scenario, I see chs 12-14 as basically endtime, with the exception that we have a flashback covering the entire NT period, with the Messiah being killed, and 2/3 of Israel being removed. Interestingly, about 1/3 of all the Jews in the world live in Israel, as they are now "going through the fire."

Zech 13.7 “Strike the shepherd,
and the sheep will be scattered,
and I will turn my hand against the little ones.
8 In the whole land,” declares the Lord,
“two-thirds will be struck down and perish;
yet one-third will be left in it.

Chapter 13: This, I believe, is when the temple, the fountain in verse 1, will be rebuilt and opened. The false prophets that worked for the “shepherds” will be purged from the land as a result of the spiritual revival in the land. I don't claim to know that the temple will be rebuilt. It may or may not be.

I don't believe Israel "starved" Gaza! They released the territory to the Palestinians, and they certainly had access to Egypt!
They decided instead to starve their own people and use the resources to build underground tunnels to conduct military operations against Israel. Yea, Israel contains a holy site for the Muslims, and they refuse to cede holy territory to the Jews. Interestingly, Zech 14 speaks of this war brought by Israel's neighbors against her, focused not just on Jerusalem but also on the Jewish People. Sounds a lot like today!

I think Israel's spiritual renewal follows this war that we're seeing today, to take place when Christ returns. Currently, God seems to be helping Israel.
If my interpretation is correct, I anticipate that Hezbollah’s leader Hassan Nasrallah will soon be eliminated by Israel. Don't know, but we'll see?

I'd personally rather be with Jesus already. You can mature in Heaven.

The end times are described as birth pains. Things will only get worse now. There is a reason Lord Jesus asked id He will find faith when He will get back.

Same here, I would rather have Jesus return now, but I want to show God that I can mature more and help others more. But hey, it is all God's timing, not mine.

After day two of Operation Below the Belt, I revisited my interpretation with the following:

The three shepherds removed in one month, I believe, are the Lebanese government, which somehow still exists in the shadow of Hezbollah.

The Lebanese government makes it mandatory that the three top positions be filled by a Maronite Christian, a Sunni Muslim, and a Shia Muslim.

The worthless shepherd who loses function of his right eye and arm due to an attack may be Hezbollah. I think they might overthrow the Lebanese government by next full moon, which is the Hunter’s Moon (aka the Blood Moon).

We’ll see! If I’m correct, I think this will lead to the siege of Jerusalem in Zechariah 12, which is a continuation of Zechariah 11’s prophecy. Perhaps Hezbollah will overrun the government and use Lebanon as a staging ground for Islamic jihadists forces to invade. This would perfectly describe how the northern horde comes up against Jerusalem in Joel 2. But God will be the deliverer.

Also, I think that an earthquake will destroy the Dome of the Rock and Al Aqsa Mosque.

, I anticipate that Hezbollah’s leader Hassan Nasrallah will soon be eliminated by Israel.
But what the Bible Prophets say, is that Israels leaders will be gone and incompetent leaders will take over:

Isaiah 3:1-9 The Lord is about to strip Judah of every prop and support, all of their leaders, generals and counsellors will lose their positions. I shall appoint inexperienced people to positions of authority. Oppression and arrogance will stalk the Land and there will be severe shortages of food and water.
Judah is brought low, for in word and deed, they defy the Lord. The look on their faces testifies against them. Like Sodom, they parade their sins. Woe betide them, they have earned the disaster that will strike them.

Isaiah 3:10-11 Happy are the righteous. All goes well with them. Woe to the wicked, disaster is upon them. My people, those who guide you are leading you astray.

Isaiah 3:13-26 The Lord stands up to judge His people. He opens the indictment against the elders and leaders; it is you who have ruined My vineyard. You have crushed My people and oppressed the poor.
You women of Zion; I will take away your finery, instead of coifed hair, you will be bald.
Your men will fall by the sword of the Lord, as in battle. Judah’s defences are stripped
bare, laid flat to the ground.
[Isaiah 22:2 & 8…your slain did not fall by the sword, as in battle….and the mainstays of Judah’s defences are removed.]

Isaiah 4:1-2 On that Day, seven women will ask one man for help and support.
On that Day, the sprouts that the Lord has grown will become glorious in their beauty and the Land will be fruitful, the pride of the survivors in the Land.
Amos 9:13-15
[in other trans. “sprouts or plant’ is rendered ‘Branch’ and assumed to refer to Jesus, but that is wrong and the “sprouts’’, nurtured by the Lord are His faithful Christian people, as is clear from the context.]

Isaiah 4:3-6 Those who remain in Jerusalem, whose survival was decreed, will be called holy. Isaiah 6:13, Isaiah 29:1-8, Zechariah 13:8-9, Romans 9:27
When the Lord washes away the filth of Jerusalem by a spirit of judgement burning like fire, He will create a cloud by day and a flame by night over Mt Zion, to be a covering for shade and shelter. [In the same way as for ancient Israel]

Isaiah 10:17-23 The Light of Israel will become a fire, their Holy One, a flame: that in a single day will burn up and consume His enemies. Malachi 4:1&3, 2 Peter 3:7
The forests and pastures will be destroyed, only a few trees will remain. Joel 1:19-20
On that Day, the remnant of Israel, the survivors of Jacob [all 12 tribes] will set their allegiance solely on the Lord.

A remnant will return, a remnant of Jacob, will return to God, their strength.

Israel, though you are as the sands of the sea – only a remnant will return. The Lord will carry out the destruction decreed upon all of the Holy Land.
Reference, REB, NIV, KJV, some verses condensed.

Judah will be judged and the entire Middle East region will be virtually depopulated by a terrible fire from the sun and only a holy remnant will be saved. I am convinced that this Bible passage tells of events soon to happen, the coming Day of judgement onto all the world and His people; a remnant of Jacob [from all 12 tribes, plus those grafted in by reason of righteousness] going to live in all of the Promised Land, before the Return of Jesus. Ezekiel 40 to 48, Rev. 7.
