It seems to me though that liberalism in general is becoming increasingly more radical.
I would have to say that it's a lot less radical than it was in the 1960s. Outside of WND and the KKK I can't think of anyone less far right who'd call people like Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden "radical."

On the other hand, when's the last time the radical right had control of a major party in the United States? When we have a major party candidate who promises to be a dictator (for just a day, he says) who sent insurgents to overthrow an election, that's radical.
Like what used to be radical not that long ago, is now what's called moderate.
With the number of republicans abandoning Trump, it looks like the pendumum is swinging back to the center.

At least five Republicans will speak at the Democratic National Convention. Here’s what to know about them:

John Giles is the mayor of Mesa, Arizona.
Geoff Duncan is the former lieutenant governor of Georgia
“Just because you vote for Kamala Harris in 2024 doesn’t mean you’re a Democrat. It just means you’re a patriot."

Stephanie Grisham served as the White House press secretary for less than a year during the Trump administration. (and as Melania's press sec)
Olivia Troye is a former Trump White House national security official.
Adam Kinzinger is a former Republican congressman who served for 12 years.

An Upper Merion GOP leader got swatted for endorsing Kamala Harris. He could lose his position in the party

Matthew McCaffery was the victim of a swatting incident after a cable news appearance. The Montgomery County Republican Committee is weighing disciplinary action against him.

The Montgomery County Republican Committee held a private disciplinary meeting Monday evening with Upper Merion GOP leader Matthew McCaffery. Christian Nascimento, Montco GOP chairman, told WHYY News the party bylaws are clear.

“If you want to be a Republican committee person, one of the few things that you have to do is support Republicans up and down the ticket."

On Friday, he appeared on CNN for an interview to discuss his opposition to Trump. Shortly after the segment aired, angry viewers bombarded McCaffery’s Facebook with colorful messages, calling him a “traitor.”

Later that evening, ... someone anonymously reported a fake incident to the police in order to swarm his house with officers. Police searched McCaffery’s home. Once police realized it was a hoax, the situation cooled down.

“If I wasn’t already doubled down with my convictions now — I’m like tripled and quadrupled down. I’m not going to quit,” McCaffery, a Marine veteran, said.

Sometime telephone grifters will do this to uncooperative intended victims. But it's not surprising it would happen to this guy. The message is clear. If you're not O.K. with the kind of person Donald Trump is, you don't belong in the GOP.

Stephanie Grisham served as the White House press secretary for less than a year during the Trump administration. (and as Melania's press sec chief of staff)

Former Trump press secretary says he mocked his supporters as ‘basement dwellers’

She wasn’t just a supporter of the former president, she said, but “a true believer” and one of his closest advisers.

“The Trump family became my family. I spent Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s at Mar-a-Lago. I saw him when the cameras were off,” Grisham said.

Grisham claimed that, behind closed doors, Trump mocked his supporters as “basement dwellers” and once, on a hospital visit, he was upset that cameras were focused on intensive care unit patients rather than on him.

Her remarks received a warm reception and loud applause from the Democratic crowd — as well as a rebuke from the Trump campaign.
“Stephanie Grisham is a stone cold loser who clearly suffers from Trump Derangement Syndrome and many other mental issues,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said in an email, in response to her speech.

When they start chanting pre-packaged insults as answers, you know someone was on-target.

Liz Cheney endorses Harris.

Speaking at Duke University in September 4:

"Donald Trump, no matter what your policy views are—no matter if you are a conservative Republican or not—Donald Trump cannot be trusted with power. The power of the presidency is the most awesome power of any office anywhere in the world, and the character of the people we elect really matters. And, so what I say is, I understand the desire to think that you’re casting a vote for conservative policies, but—first of all, he is not a conservative, and he’s dangerous, and this is not a policy election, and we can talk about getting this country back on track once we get through this election cycle—but Donald Trump, if he is reelected, will be far more dangerous than we have ever seen before.

He has told us he believes you can terminate the Constitution. He’s gone to war with the rule of law. He repeatedly suggests that the people who assaulted and attacked the Capitol should be celebrated. He has said he will ignore the rulings of the courts. He won’t leave office. He is a risk that we simply can’t take, and he has to be defeated.

I say that, not as a liberal Democrat. Not as someone who agrees with policies on the left most of the time, but he is simply a risk that, as a nation, we must never take again.

Because we are here in North Carolina, I think it is crucially important for people to recognize not only is what I’ve just said about the danger that Trump poses, something that should prevent people from voting for him, but I don’t believe that we have the luxury of writing in candidates’ names, particularly in swing states. And, as a conservative, as someone who believes in and cares about the Constitution, I have thought deeply about this, and because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, but I will be voting for Kamala Harris.

And let me say that I think it is crucially important—and I would say especially to my fellow conservatives—that we think about the stakes and we think about the extent to which we have a duty, a duty, to put our country and our Constitution above partisanship. We all have that duty and responsibility."

It's amazing to watch this flip-flopping happening all over the place.

In Cheney's view, Trump is a threat to the country. She flat out states policies are beside the point:

Donald Trump, no matter what your policy views are—no matter if you are a conservative Republican or not—Donald Trump cannot be trusted with power.

Yes, I know that's what she's saying now. I guess all of her concerns in 2020 about Harris raising taxes, taking away guns and health insurance and exploding the size and power of the federal government are all A-OK now.

Doesn't look like flip-flopping to me. Looks like the situation has crossed the Godzilla threshold for her, and she's facing an enemy mine situation.

It absolutely is flip-flopping. In 2020, Cheney was sounding alarm bells about what would happen if Harris were elected. Now, she's voting for her and all of the things she said were so problematic. You may suggest that this is flip-flopping with a cause, but you don't get to pretend that this isn't blatant flip-flopping.

It's only flip-flopping if she says she was wrong about those alarm bells. She gave alarm bells for both Harris and Trump. Apparently, she considers the alarm bells for Trump to be much worse.

It's flip-flopping because she went from "we won't give her the chance" to "I'm voting for her". Those are polar opposite positions.

Well, yeah, you have a point in that particular case. On the other hand, conservatives can still shut down Harris' agenda by blocking her in Congress, if they can keep enough seats.

Did you check the date on her "We won't give her a chance" tweet? That was before Trump's attempt to steal the election.

Obviously thise concerns were misplaced, since none of those things happened.
