  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Since when is quarantine not a well-established public health principle?

Quarantine of sick people is a well-established public health principle. Testing asymptomatic people with a dubious test and telling them to stay home for 10 days even though they feel fine is foolishness.

Lockdowns didn't even go that far. You certainly wouldn't have wanted me to be in charge during the height of COVID-19, I would have been pushing tight quarantines all over the place to try to keep the virus contained as much as possible.

And that genuinely concerns me. There are people that want to double down on these ineffective measures and would institute them all over.

As much fun as it is to watch you drag the goal post to a new spot, you have to be clear on what you're railing against... Was it the snitch line (as the OP said) because people deserve privacy, or is it that social distancing is fake and you didn't like to do it, which is a claim that wasn't mentioned anywhere in your post or article.

The snitch line existed to report people for violating social distancing. It's absolutely relevant to a discussion in which a state governor, who is now in the running for the second highest office in the country, set up this line to report people for violating a law that was based on literally nothing.

But contact tracing was done away with by AIDS because it is so discriminatory and airline flight restrictions are so racist.
Well none of that sentence is true, but ok.

No, it isn't. It used to be common practice. If you've been in contact with someone who is highly infectious, you have a good chance of spreading it to more people before you develop noticeable symptoms, depending on the disease. COVID-19 is definitely a case where asymptomatic people can spread the disease like mad.

Again, as I showed, the line was set up because people were already calling 911 to report and they did not want to overwhelm 911 with non-emergency calls, so they gave them an alternate number to call. By doing so, they removed the pressure on 911 and 311 and prevented the furlough of about 100 people who would have otherwise been let go.

Keep up, my guy.

Awesome. Let's employ 100 people to take 911 nuisance calls. Brilliant.

What does it say about the population that someone thought it was necessary to call 911 because someone was hanging out at the lake with 10 of their friends?

Quarantining people who have been exposed to an infectious disease is quite different than your smartphone sending you a notification that you were "exposed" to someone somewhere at some point (maybe) that may or may not have COVID.

No, they retained the current employment of employees that were going to be furloughed to run the COVID line so that they wouldn't have to call 911.

Seriously, this is the third time I have said it.

It says to me that the unknown illness that had a high mortality rate was causing concern and questions among people and that somebody in charge needed to identify a way to address that concern without causing strain on the critical life-sustaining infrastructure that comes with police, fire, and medical emergency access. Which is what he did.

Yes, one is a courtesy notification that comes with the convenience that modern technology affords us, the other was a step taken because such things were not available and drastic steps needed to be taken. Nobody was jumping out of unmarked vans and forcing people into camps or their homes or quarantine because they had an exposure notification on their phone.

One that was opt-in, I might add, so if you got them, it's because you decided you wanted them.

It says to me that the government and public health scared the crap out of people so much that they deemed a small outside gathering a 911-level emergency. Democrats were more prone to this hysteria than anyone else.

This is a telling graph. The risk of hospitalization if one had COVID at the time this poll was taken was somewhere south of 5%. Yet 41% of Democrats believed that risk was 50% or higher. Less than 1% of people could properly identify the hospitalization risk from COVID. Why were Democrats FAR more likely than anyone else to overestimate this risk? I've been told this is all about public health and not politics, but the data would suggest that Democrats were the least informed.

Public health and government absolutely failed in properly communicating risk, and instead of educating people that, no, people gathering outside at the lake isn't a risk to anyone, Walz decided to set up a snitch line.

There weren't forcible quarantines in the US, but you're mistaken that people weren't forcibly quarantined during the COVID pandemic.

No, I made sure those were off. Maybe you have enough trust in the government to share your location with them for the purpose of "exposure notifications", but such a system is ripe for abuse.

If you want to go over the numbers, we can, because they’re also baloney, but let’s try to really refocus on the points you brought up in your post before you go walk over into conspiracy theory wonderland.

Do you least understand the difference between your misrepresentation (he opened a hot line and encouraged people to spy on others) and the reality (people were calling with concerns and to address the issue of 911 being overburdened, they opened a hotline instead)?

So it's safe to say you're against neighbors reporting neighbors for abortions in Texas, or reporting people who are suspected of helping people get abortions, right?
Tactics that Nazi Germany used where people informed on their neighbor or family members is wrong. No matter what side of the aisle they come from.

It really is that simple. and includes mandatory masking, mandatory vaccinations, mandatory closing of companies,

Then you opted out and have nothing to complain about as the only people involved are those who wanted to be. You didn’t want to be, you weren’t, you weren't forced to, and the story is over. You’re being all wrapped around the axel about it for nothing.

Sadly, it's not a conspiracy theory.

Do you least understand the difference between your misrepresentation (he opened a hot line and encouraged people to spy on others) and the reality (people were calling with concerns and to address the issue of 911 being overburdened, they opened a hotline instead)?

There is no misrepresentation. The hotline was set up to report people for violating the social distancing rules. Which, to be clear, were based on absolutely nothing.

I get why you want to reframe that, since you seem to be in favor of it. But it was nothing more than a line for tattling on your neighbors.

"We're seeing crowds that are a little too big, especially around the lakes," said Gov. Tim Walz on Tuesday.
Bde Maka Ska, Harriet, Lake of the Isles, and Nokomis are popular destinations for walkers, bicyclists and joggers, and when the weather gets nice – as it has the past two days – they're even more likely to attract Minnesotans looking to get some fresh air.
In wake of the governor's stay-at-home order, which still allows people to leave their homes for fresh air and runs to stores for essential needs, a hotline has been established that allows anyone to report groups of people that aren't following social distancing measures.
Perhaps the most astonishing line is that the governor's order still "allows people to leave their homes for fresh air". That's mighty kind of him!

Oooookkkk…

Are you aware that there are places in the world other than the US?

COVID "exposure notifications" were opt-out, but the sheer idiocy surrounding COVID "social distancing" rules was forced on everyone. When school finally returned to in-person, my daughter had to again be removed for 10 days because she had been a "close contact" of someone in her class who had COVID. During that time, she had absolutely no symptoms. She was perfectly fine. Yet she was made to sit at home because of the nonsensical rules that were implemented. Her education suffered immensely because of COVID.

Don't try to pretend like no one was "forced" during COVID. Fools willingly surrendered their freedom and their liberty for the illusion of safety. Those same fools forced their idiocy on society.
