From the side that supposedly hates cancel culture:

WASHINGTON (AP) — From his home office in small-town Kentucky, a seasoned political operative is quietly investigating scores of federal employees suspected of being hostile to the policies of Republican Donald Trump, a highly unusual and potentially chilling effort that dovetails with broader conservative preparations for a new White House.
Tom Jones and his American Accountability Foundation are digging into the backgrounds, social media posts and commentary of key high-ranking government employees, starting with the Department of Homeland Security. They’re relying in part on tips from his network of conservative contacts, including workers. In a move that alarms some, they’re preparing to publish the findings online.
With a $100,000 grant from the Heritage Foundation, the goal is to post 100 names of government workers to a website this summer to show a potential new administration who might be standing in the way of a second-term Trump agenda — and ripe for scrutiny, reclassifications, reassignments or firings.
...
Their focus is on the highest ranks of the civil servants — GS-13, GS-14 and GS-15 employees and those in senior executive positions

A reminder from the waning days of the Trump Administration.

Trump Executive Order turns many civil servants into at-will fireable employees

“This executive order strips due process rights and protections from perhaps hundreds of thousands of federal employees and will enable political appointees and other officials to hire and fire these workers at will,” Kelley said. “Through this order, President Trump has declared war on the professional civil service by giving himself the authority to fill the government with his political cronies who will pledge their unwavering loyalty to him—not to America.”

“The [1883] Pendleton Act is clearly in the sights of this executive order,” said Donald Kettl, the Sid Richardson professor at the University of Texas at Austin’s Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs. “It wants to undo what the Pendleton Act and subsequent civil service laws tried to accomplish, which was to create a career civil service with expertise that is both accountable to elected officials but also a repository of expertise in government. The argument here is that anyone involved in policymaking can be swept into this new classification, and once they’re in they’re subject to political review and dismissal for any reason.”

It is all about loyalty with the republicans. Forget qualifications.

This is all part of their Project 2025 where they completely take over the government then dismantle it. If Trump loses they will simply rewrite the Project as Project 2029 and will have four more years to dismantle from the sidelines.

Do Americans want the various federal bureaucracies, which are all filled with people who were NOT elected into those bureaucracies, to be less accountable to the American public or more accountable to the American public?

Honestly, to gain expertise, we want people to be long-termers in a position. Not to flow in and out like the tides every 4 years.

There are plenty of people in elected office and political appointees at the top of departments to set the agenda for any particular office and rely on the civil service to carry out their directives.

This is about accountability? LOL HA!

It is abut loyalty.

If they are not loyal they are held accountable. There is the accountability you mentioned.

Stupidest. Idea. Ever.

I prefer that the Federal bureaucracies be held accountable to the American public.
They’re all accountable. There’s way more oversight of the federal government than there is of most private businesses.

Seems like overkill to make them all elected offices.
I am not suggesting to make them elected offices. However, should the Federal bureaucracies be accountable to the American public?

Yet, why is it that it appears that the Federal bureaucracies have grown to epic proportions with regard to the amount of involvement in the life of Americans?

Do you honestly believe that there ain't a lot of people in the Federal bureaucracies who have been doing everything that they can to be loyal to their own political and cultural and social agendas? Do you really believe that?

If you're not suggesting they be elected, then in essence you are saying they should be employees that the Chief Executive can fire at will.

No, we don't want that.

That is not a retort. That is an emoji.

We see it for what it is. When Trump becomes the next dictator on day 1 president, he will be in charge of drawing the projected hurricane cones after he dismisses employees of NOAA and installs hurricane deniers who gladly bestow the president with the magic-marker title with honors.

Should the Federal bureaucracies hinder the policies of the POTUS as long as the President's policies are NOT breaking the laws and are NOT illegal?

Better unelected bureaucrats than the likes of MTG and Louie Gohmert deciding where to store nuclear waste or if a drug is safe and efficacious.

They are FEDERAL EMPLOYEES. It give us the RIGHT to take a probe into their entire life....their religious affiliation, their political affiliation, their emails, a photo of the actual color of their skin, if male - is he circumcised, if a woman - to be physically inspected for male baggage, and most importantly do you pledge loyalty to Donald J Trump? If yes, sign this non-disclosure agreement - if no then hire a lawyer. If one gets past the loyalty test, this is where they are asked for rudimentary skills regarding the new job.

I'm amazed that this type of potential purge could be legal in the US.

The Public Service is (or should be) apolitical, religiously neutral and accountable to the public. This does not mean that public servants cannot have a personal political or religious viewpoint. It does mean that they will put this aside when carrying out their public duties.

It is NOT accountable to an individual person or a political party.
