They did that, didn't they. Saying they would never trust a Trump shot. Until they flipped on a dime and pretty much forced us to get the shots.

Yes, it was very funny ... in a sad way ... how quickly they changed their tune when they took over.

Yes. I did get a COVID vaccination. In spite of all the fear tactics used by the Democrats trying to convince people it was unsafe.

I got the first two shots myself. I'm not such a high risk to take a chance on the boosters. There's no shortage of fear tactics on either side of the aisle. I'm not involved in the tribal war going on anymore. It draws me away from the blessings of life. You could have said republicans and the post would retain its current value to me. Better still would have been the one sentence reply. The first sentence answers my question. I appreciate that. Have a good day.

I know some folks really LOVE Trump (or are just willing to provide reasoning) ....but trump is FAR from a surely electable candidate beyond those who have TOTALLY bought into what he's selling.

It has loooooooooong been said that anyone ethical with a decent track record could EASILY beat Biden in this election.

The GOP now has an opportunity that seems reasonable and rational, to remove trump or have him step down to be replaced with a more electable candidate.

I'm SUPER inclined to agree with her.

Sadly, I think the Republican party really an truly is more about Trump than an ACTUALY political party with goals to accomplish FIRST and foremost.

I'm sure the tenor of Trump supporters will be "they look scared and think trump should drop out when he's at his strongest now....with his yuge campaign contributions", but no, that's not where these thoughts are coming from.
We are still living in the Trump-era.

Trump may want the Republican National Convention moved up to before he gets sentenced to lock his nomination in.
If he allows it to happen as scheduled, and doesn’t win on the first ballot, he’ll likely lose the nomination.

You* couldn’t script a better, more polarizing figure than Donald Trump, and he does it well, (if “reality” turns out to be a “simulation”, I would want to meet the AI that wrote Trump’s code.)

I believe it is the media that is polarizing. They just used Trump for their agenda.

Yes, we were told by some time ago that the lying press was the enemy of the American people, and you seem to believe that too.

As they used Reagan, and Bush and the other Bush?

I left the Republican Party when Trump had it all sewn up in the late summer of 2016. Not the only one. Trump and the party effectively merged.

Now what usually happens is that a losing candidate is pushed aside and others get a chance. Trump didn’t get pushed aside. He pretty much owns the Republican presidential brand. So I don’t think it is possible to dump him now because he has the power to hang on to the brand. The Party regulars who would oppose him are all marginalized or they support Trump because they have no other options.

Let’s say Trump volunteers to bow out. Let’s say someone like Rubio steps up. I could see a groundswell for him because he’s not Biden, and he’s not Trump and short of the most partisan Democrats nobody would call him a dictator or a baby- killer.

But why wouldn’t this work? First, Trump won’t back out. And second, we have other choices right now and people are locked in for either Tweedle Dum or Tweedle Dee. So we get one of them.
We (Republicans) had a couple of offramps to replace him(the 2024 primaries being the last chance.) In my opinion we had good primary choices. But the voters chose to stick with Trump.
So yes, it's tweedledum or tweedledee.

Why is it funny that we wouldn't trust Trump? And is it, actually sad that we wouldn't trust Trump?
What has he done to inspire the trust of ALL Americans? Up until that point in his presidency, seriously, what?

I can't think of anything.

I can certainly create a list of reasons to think that Trump is NOT trustworthy but not the opposite.

Yeah.
It makes me freaked out but I don't think the next elected president is going to survive their whole time in office.

THAT is particularly pessimisstic; even for me. But yeah.

We can disagree on CF. We can mildly insult each other. But I very much doubt anyone on this website would kill either of these two presidential candidates. But America is not filled exclusively with CF members.
Actuarial Life Table Looks like if Biden were average his chances of death are about 27% in the four years. Trump a few percent less. The job is stressful but both receive great medical care. Either can be declared incompetent too. I am not sure of the disability rate for that age. I hope Trump picks a good VP.

Yes, I do. They spin chaos and misery. It's their business model - a result of the 24-hour news cycle.

It seems we disagree.

And I think primaries are a big part of that. The Republican activists mostly wanted to have nothing to do with Trump back in 2015. But when he won the primaries with the collusion of the media assisting him the activists mostly retreated. Now they (we - I include myself in that) are outsiders. Anybody but Trump could have had an absolute landslide over Hillary. And even Trump was able to pull out a victory over Hillary she was so bad.

We had a few good choices in 2024 but Trump owned the primaries. I'm sorry to see the caucus system fall apart. It was capable of handling complexities and surprises in a way primaries never will. Primaries have dumbed down politics.

I don't think there is anyone with the power to remove Trump. And only Biden's handlers could depose him now. All they would have to do is rewrite his teleprompter feed and he could deliver his retirement announcement and then wander off. But then the handlers would be out of cushy jobs running the presidency.

Oh, I wouldn:t go so far to say that we disagree, I think that the old-school journalism is laying low for the most part, (though ProPublica is still out there, plugging away).

Strike that. Reverse it.

Trump used the media to further his agenda. Or his ego.

-- A2SG, hard to tell if there's any difference between the two....

Both. The media saw that Trump generates clicks (and hence revenue) while Trump saw that there is no such thing as bad publicity.
