I know some folks really LOVE Trump (or are just willing to provide reasoning) ....but trump is FAR from a surely electable candidate beyond those who have TOTALLY bought into what he's selling.

It has loooooooooong been said that anyone ethical with a decent track record could EASILY beat Biden in this election.

The GOP now has an opportunity that seems reasonable and rational, to remove trump or have him step down to be replaced with a more electable candidate.

I'm SUPER inclined to agree with her.

Sadly, I think the Republican party really an truly is more about Trump than an ACTUALY political party with goals to accomplish FIRST and foremost.

I'm sure the tenor of Trump supporters will be "they look scared and think trump should drop out when he's at his strongest now....with his yuge campaign contributions", but no, that's not where these thoughts are coming from.

I thank you for your thoughtfulness, but I think Trump is the only one who can do this.

We have expanded the party with Trump, and the platform represents something I think we can all get behind, elections have never been about liking every single policy, it's about whether in the main it's positive for all of us.

And in the main it's very positive. The only disappointment I have is in the left at the moment.

I'm sure you do! I'm sure ALL Trump supporters are TOTALLY convinced that ONLY Trump can save America.
And I think I know the reason for it.

Out of curiousity, you say the phrase "we can all get behind", I'm curious about who the "we" is? If it's referring to the people already supporting Trump, well, I'm not convinced that would be enough.

And in the main it's very positive. The only disappointment I have is in the left at the moment. I wish they would have had more integrity.
Oh, I'm sure. In what ways would you say "the left" has been lacking integrity?

Who would make a "more electable candidate" and what would you expect the more electable candidate to do?

I left the Republican Party when Trump had it all sewn up in the late summer of 2016. Not the only one. Trump and the party effectively merged.

Now what usually happens is that a losing candidate is pushed aside and others get a chance. Trump didn’t get pushed aside. He pretty much owns the Republican presidential brand. So I don’t think it is possible to dump him now because he has the power to hang on to the brand. The Party regulars who would oppose him are all marginalized or they support Trump because they have no other options.

Let’s say Trump volunteers to bow out. Let’s say someone like Rubio steps up. I could see a groundswell for him because he’s not Biden, and he’s not Trump and short of the most partisan Democrats nobody would call him a dictator or a baby- killer.

But why wouldn’t this work? First, Trump won’t back out. And second, we have other choices right now and people are locked in for either Tweedle Dum or Tweedle Dee. So we get one of them.

This is one election where I think the VP choice is very important. I'd very much like to see Rubio as Trump's VP choice, especially in the event that something should 'happen' to a President Trump.

Well, we know Trump would be impeached three or four times, for whatever reasons.

Yeah.
It makes me freaked out but I don't think the next elected president is going to survive their whole time in office.

THAT is particularly pessimisstic; even for me. But yeah.

We can disagree on CF. We can mildly insult each other. But I very much doubt anyone on this website would kill either of these two presidential candidates. But America is not filled exclusively with CF members.

I hope we both are wrong, but that is how I see it also.

But what if there is evidence on which to base an impeachment?
What if there is? That would be novel. Bring it on.

We’re a banana republic now so what does evidence even matter? That’s so old fashioned.

Who would make a "more electable candidate" and what would you expect the more electable candidate to do?

Take your pick, literally. Republicans could choose any American as their nominee and this nominee would likely reinforce FAITH IN America and our institutions. Whereas Donald Trump has exploited his ability to UNDERMINE America and our institutions for financial and political gain! We expect that nominee to fight FOR our country, not against us for personal benefit. This lack of imagination is not as large a problem for republicans as some think. I would consider voting for a random prisoner in America before I would ever cast a ballot for the donvict. Because I recognize the fruits of Mr Trump are not safe for human consumption.

Think about a lame duck Trump presidency and if this could possibly help America as we are now recovering from his last debacle. There's really zero evidence of another Trump term doing anything but driving America further into our dysfunction. It's absurd to fool oneself so insidiously. It's a silly cult of terrible personality without substance. That's all this Trump charade is.

No it wouldn't. A lot of things were brought forward and were labelled "evidence". In what ways were those things not evidence? Ideally, you could address some specific examples.

We’re a banana republic now so what does evidence even matter? That’s so old fashioned.
Or maybe, plenty of evidence exists....like a LOT. But you just don't see it....because you have a job and other things on your mind that occupy your time and so you simply cannot know everything you must know to be as informed as the decision makers.

Honestly, you have a lot of rhetoric but not much else. I remember the US becoming a net exporter of oil, NATO nations being held to their obligations under the NAT charter, unemployment at an all-time low, and when COVID hit there was the fastest vaccination in history created for it. And that was all Trump's doings.

That's what I'm saying about Mr Trump and his entire charade my friend. This man certainly certainly did not make America great again. It's a grand illusion. Are you vaccinated against the covid virus? Just curious...

C'mon man. That's a bunch of malarkey. Biden did all of those things. {(;-P

Yes. I did get a COVID vaccination. In spite of all the fear tactics used by the Democrats trying to convince people it was unsafe.

I agree ... and I like it all, except for 'the fastest vaccination rollout' in history. That is the one area where I see Trump as being potentially weak with some voters .... the whole Covid vaccine controversy. Trump doesn't quite yet see it like many of his supporters do.

The way I see it, Trump could potentially lose some of the votes of those who have been vaccine injured, the families of those who suffered vaccine-related deaths. Some of his voters could potentially be swayed over to the RFK JR. side, based on RFK's beliefs about the vaccine. I would really like it if RFK Jr. would drop out of the presidential race, but I don't see it happening. I'm concerned he will take votes away from Trump over this one issue.

They did that, didn't they. Saying they would never trust a Trump shot. Until they flipped on a dime and pretty much forced us to get the shots. Anyone who hasn't had the whole series has been made into a pariah. Just like there was an attempt to turn you into a pariah just now. Trumpist anti-vaxer that you are. Or aren't. Or whatever.
