I was raised in the Baptist/Southern Baptist denomination.

My mom had grown up in the Baptist denomination. When she tells me about things the church taught her growing up, they were false teachings: sex is bad, drinking is bad, if you read any translation other than the King James you were going to hell. What bothers me is that she still holds on the first two of these false teachings.

If sex is bad, how did she make you? Lol

From my understanding the act in itself wasn't considered bad in earlier times. But desire was wrongly considered lustful. There's also the inherited prejudices relating to women. Marital relations were a duty. This is frequently depicted in historical works and classics. Women weren't instructed and many weren't conversant in pregnancy either. It wasn't discussed and was considered in poor taste to do so. Openness is a modern concept. Knowing correlated with impropriety or ladies of the night. Ignorance was a badge of honor. Her comments on alcohol are likely prohibitions ingrained to discourage drunkenness.

Understandably, she'd have reservations about alcohol. It's difficult for children. I had a prayer partner with a similar mindset. She had alcoholics in her family and her spouse was as well. If the topic came up she'd lecture and I don't have a problem. I avoided the subject when possible and never consumed in her presence.

As for the other I had a feeling that was the case. My grandmother didn't address it with her children. But I suppose they discussed it later on. My aunt said her opinion was negative, We never discussed it and I assumed her influences were much like your mother's.

Thankfully, you were born in a different age and can embrace the things the Lord provided for our enjoyment without shame. ;-)

I'm disturbed that you two have broken up several times, before marriage and during marriage.

I don't know if this is the right thing to say, but I think you should stay away from him. Somewhere on the forum, I saw that you said he cheated on you. I think he will continue to do that and you do not need that hurt in your life.
