At a political rally over the weekend, Donald Trump mockingly asked where is Nikki Haley's husband?

Haley tweeted (in response):

"Michael is deployed serving our country, something you know nothing about. Someone who continually disrespects the sacrifices of military families has no business being commander in chief."

[Haleys's husband, Major Michael Haley, is serving in the National Guard and is currently deployed to Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti. ]

Disgusting. I'm actually old enough to remember a time in politics when candidates spouses and children were off limits.
Yes, they would sling mud at each other, but families were off limits.
This stopped a couple of decades ago, before Donald Trump to be fair, but he has taken it to another level.
I liked her response, though.
Also, he is in a glass house throwing stones. Melania has not been on the campaign trail or court appearances beside him, either.

Or was it an innocent remark?

I believe it was probably the former, given his tendency to weaponize even the smallest variations from the norm.

I respect your husband's service, Ambassador Haley, and am sorry it was taken into question.

I feel dirty reading that transcript. It seems the MAGA faithful find his derogatory words to be entertainment.

Of course they do. His boorish behavior is the only real thing that sets him apart from other Republicans. If you want conservative policies, you have a dozen options. If you want somebody willing to act like a jerk on your behalf, you have one.
