There is a parishioner or parishioners who own a yoga studio.
I pray that the Father forgive them, they do not know what they are doing. Some thoughts from exorcists

Basically if they say that they only do it for the exercise, then why do yoga? There are other ways to stretch and build muscle tone in exercises similar to yoga, but do not mimic worship of Hindu deities. To do so ignorantly is one this, but to persist with full knowledge is a violation of the first commandment to not have strange gods before God.

If it were in my parish and advertised in my bulletin, then I would have to go to the priest and tell him this is not right. We are a Catholic Church, not a Hindu temple. We should not accept false worship even in ignorance to be promoted by the Church. If the parishioners that are promoting yoga are taking communion, they risk committing sacrilege and bringing condemnation on themselves from God, as yoga done with prior knowledge is a mortal sin.
I know that I would feel very uncomfortable and pray for the grace to at least speak up

I don‘t know if they take Communion or not but I assume they do. I haven’t seen her or them (I think it’s two parishioners) in a long time.

Yoga is to be avoided by Christians as it consists of worship poses to the various Hindu Gods which are demons
Neither yoga nor demons own the human body, our movements with it, nor our postures.

I just have to resist twisting myself into a pretzel every time I gaze upon a lotus flower. ;)

*joking*
Haha! I’ll tell you what…..yoga may have been the hardest exercise I ever did. I thought it looked easy but I was wrong!

So it’s ok IYO to have a lotus flower on your avatar or fb page?
It depends on what it means to you and why you are doing it. Sounds to me like you appreciate its beauty. Amen to that.

If you intentionally or unintentionally mimic postures which are used in the worship of false gods, how is that helpful?

Do you intentionally mock the first commandment by your post? The command is worship the Lord your God and Him only shalt thou serve.

Words like “you don’t own me” sound more like defiance than godly humility. God is not like a teenage boy trying to subdue a girl. He doesn’t cry and chase you if you leave. He hears the words “you don’t own me” and He thinks your right, I gave you free will. Heaven is for those that love ME. You will find that I don’t own you, neither do I owe you. Repent and believe the Gospel or not, you are free to choose.

The demons just laugh when you tell them they don’t own you. Just keep mocking the Lord and you will be here with us soon enough. We don’t have to own you. You show up willingly.
Who cares if yoga is hard? Me and my house will serve the Lord

The Bible tells us neither do we own ourselves

Yes I do, though this particular flower could possibly be a water lily. I can’t tell the difference between the two.

How do you get mocking the fist commandment? What makes you think a posture is worshipping false gods?

People kneel and worship false gods. Can we never kneel just because they do also?

Yoga mimics the postures of Hindu worship. To utilize those is to give credibility to that worship.
The exorcists of the Catholic Church have told you to stay away from it. It is spiritually harmful.

If you would accidentally form a posture that is used in the worship of false gods, no problem
But to actively study and promote yoga, which is the worship of false gods, and pass it off as just exercise has no place in the Catholic Church.

It’s not the postures, it’s the yoga that makes the difference.

The Kingdom of God is a hierarchy. Every spirit obeys that hierarchy, even the demons. They can only oppress a soul that God allows them.
We pray for God’s hierarchy when we pray, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on Earth as it is in heaven.

An Exorcist is an ordained priest of the Catholic Church, and as such has spiritual authority over you and can directly combat demons as his Bishop allows. We, as laity, do not have that authority. Exorcists have told you to stay away from yoga. Don’t take my word for it, research what they say.
If you openly defy them, who are officers of the Church, and say yoga is no big deal and I will do what I want.
Then you are outside the Church and need to repent. When outside the Church, you are open to demonic oppression, obsession, and in extreme cases possession. If done in ignorance, God will attempt to chastise you to call you back.
If you resist correction, then you are outside the Church and have lost her protection. Demons love when we are disobedient, because that is when they can ensnare us.

Do you realize that when we defy instructions from an officer of the Church we pray the Our Father as a lie? If you met God at that point, He would ask you why are your lips saying those words when your heart defies the officers of my kingdom? Do you mean what you say when you pray, or do you consider me a joke?

I do not recommend yoga. For further reading consult Catholic teaching and go to confession.

Peace be with you

We have digressed quite far from the question of the OP. There are already many threads here discussing yoga.
Lotus picture for an icon seems ok depending on the intention, meaning and motivation.

The OP asked the question and said she used to do yoga. I answered her OP and have not digressed from it. I said the same thing you are saying here

This probably will sound like a stupid question but it’s been bothering me. I find lotus flowers kind of pretty and have now, and have had in the past, a picture of one on my fb page. Since Buddhists or Hindus or whatever religion uses them as a symbol, is it a sin to have one on my page? I don’t do yoga anymore but I did once, years ago, when it was offered at of all places, my parish.
There's no problem with using the Lotus flower for it's asthetic appeal to you. In fact the Catholic Syro-Malabar Church in India uses it in one of their popular traditional crosses. The Cross stands in a stylised version of the Lotus.

Lotus flowers, despite being borrowed by any religion, belongs to the Almighty Who made them.

Concern yourself with only that knowledge.
The only problem is allowing oneself to think someone borrowing a creation of the ONLY God, for their false faith means they now own the rights to it.
With prayer from the heart and loving the Lord, He can bring peace.

You're going to be okay, just relax. Pray and have faith as He brings you out of the past, little by little as reminders come up ~ allow Him to heal you with sincere petitions for Him to do so, and less and less little things will worry you.

Goodness, no! Lotus flowers are more than pretty. Any chance you could post it here, for everyone to admire?
