This probably will sound like a stupid question but it’s been bothering me. I find lotus flowers kind of pretty and have now, and have had in the past, a picture of one on my fb page. Since Buddhists or Hindus or whatever religion uses them as a symbol, is it a sin to have one on my page? I don’t do yoga anymore but I did once, years ago, when it was offered at of all places, my parish.

If you are concerned, I would consult a diocesan exorcist. If you like it as a flower, I can’t see the harm, but if it is a reminder of your past when you practiced yoga. It becomes near occasion for sin
Only you know why you like the lotus, but don’t let an attachment to a thing of this world interfere with your love for Jesus.

Spend a holy hour in adoration and ask Jesus for His advice. The rule is silence in adoration. If you have your heart open, you can receive an answer in the still voice of God

What would I need an exorcist for?

They might be water lilies. I can’t tell the difference.
I made the comment above.

No it’s not a sin. God created the flower. If you simply like the flower there is nothing wrong with that. It does not matter what Hindus or Buddhists use it for.

Michie, it‘s even not a sin with the Lotus representing this stuff in Buddhism and Hinduism? This link sounds like the Lotus goes hand in hand with these religions. The flower represents things in those religions.

Yoga is a ritual that mimics the worship of Hindu gods which are demons.

I only said if you are concerned, which you might be because you are asking the question.
I remember being taught yoga in Catholic high school and grade school in then 1970s and 80s
Not properly taught the Catholic catechism, but mimicking demon worship as a way to find God?
Yeah that needs to be taught to kids. (Sarcasm)
Fulton Sheen would have thrown them out of a Catholic school.

A lotus is a flower. If it draws you to yoga, that is a distraction by a seducing spirit away from God and should be discarded. If you can’t do that, what hold does it have on you? Do you defend yoga over God? Why?

I am only telling you because you ask the question. If it is no big deal, why did you ask?
Demons are subtle, and they look for supposedly innocent ways to distract us from following Jesus

Do you pray a daily rosary? Do you pray the Angelus three times per day along with the auxillium Christianorum prayers? When is the last time you were at confession? If you attend Mass weekly and receive communion, are you sure it is worthily? Do you pursue holiness or do you think that is unimportant?

I am not accusing you, only you can answer these questions for yourself. You asked if keeping a lotus was a sin. Answering these questions for yourself will give you the answer. Anyone that follows Jesus in humility would have no trouble answering them. If they offend you, consider influence by an evil spirit.

Peace be with you

No it’s not. The Buddhists and Hindus do not own the lotus flower. Regardless how they use it. It’s like I could not have a picture of a daisy because whatever religious group uses it for their symbol. I like goats regardless of how satanists use them as a symbol. It has nothing to do with the flowers or the goat in themselves.

I agree. They also fold their hands, ring bells and burn incense. But with different intent.

A flower, so beautiful. No religion owns any of it. They may try to appropriate or hijack symbols but, we need not be concerned. We are free in Christ to celebrate the beauty of God's creation.

The rainbow has been hijacked as well. It misrepresents what God used it for in the time of Noah. Should we reject rainbows?

Sometimes we can become scrupulous in these things which is not a good thing spiritually. I know @FaithT struggles with anxiety which can bring these things on. But try to trust in the Lord. There is nothing wrong with enjoying the beauty of a lotus flower.

Kind of like how the rainbow has been taken over from the gays? Oh, never mind. I just now read Michie’s post about the rainbow.

I agree that Buddhists do not own the lotus flower. The question does not concern the Lotus flower itself, rather that n the mind of the person that asked the question it referred her to yoga.
Yoga is to be avoided by Christians as it consists of worship poses to the various Hindu Gods which are demons. Ever hear of “I am become death, the destroyer of worlds”? That is a quote from a Hindu deity.

As Christians we are not to hold attachment to any created thing. Our love is for God and our affection is for Him alone. He is more beautiful than a lotus and can fill our whole soul with delight. If the lotus is being used to keep one’s mind distracted, it is no good and should be discarded. Jesus calls us to give up everything we have to follow Him. If we hold onto things, they weigh us down.

If one just happens to have a lotus flower and it does not distract from prayer life and regular reception of the sacraments, then it is no big deal

However, evil spirits can inhabit any object. We can tell they are there by how much we defend them if the object is taking our mind away from building virtue

They stopped offering it because of it’s connection to Hinduism. Why they had it in the first place, I don’t know. It was probably started by one of the more liberal people on staff. I’m thinking maybe a religious sister who no longer works there.

The is very good and give thanks to God
I thought that I said before, and I apologize if I was not clear, that I was not making accusations.
I only shared advice. If yoga is purged from your life, then you need not be concerned

I know that I had some Catholic teachers that led me into yoga for a short time many years ago. From what I have learned about the spiritual life, I would never do it again. I am glad that you are not ensnared by it

Peace be with you

There is a parishioner or parishioners who own a yoga studio.
