Well why did he bring up cosmic wars and numerology? What do they have to do with highway fast food?

What does highway fast food have to do with religion. Is Chick-fil-a a church? (No.) It's a business. If it wants to operate a restaurant in the limited space inside the highway rest area, it needs to comply with any contractural restrictions that the highway authority wants to provide their customers (travelers) with access to "food".

I think ... that won't even solve the problem it purports to "fix".
FWIW, even though I think the persecution outrage is silly, I'm inclined to agree with you here. I'd rather see expanded hours than making one more restaurant out of at least 2-3 be open on a Sunday.

So why does the public need it 7 days a week? I wanna hear from you.
I'll repeat my previous post:

......I'm not sure that garbage fast food should be part of govt "services" at all.

Otoh, if the legislature in its wisdom decides a certain service is warranted, then contractors should only sign up if they can provide that service. Its a basic principle that has nothing to with the particular value of fast food nor C-fil-A politics.

No you brought up something about a cosmic war about Christianity and numerology. Which aren’t tied to this topic.
As I said, it must be. There is no way this is a matter of terms of a contract, that does not come up for renewal for 33 years, being changed. It just must be more than that!

Current Chick-fil-A restaurants on the thruway already have a 33 year contract. They won't be affected until the contract expires. Gives them plenty of time to figure out what they're gonna do then.

Ah, so the 7 Chick-fil-A restaurants will remain closed until the end of their contract.

This entire thread is based on a false premise.

I don't think this is persecution of Chick-Fil-A. I think it's an idiotic overreach that won't even solve the problem it purports to "fix".
Agreed. It ain't persecution, but I do think the bill is stupid.

If you read the actual posts, you would see that it was stated that the number 33 (as in the number of years) was just the time left on the contract, and "not numerology". As for "Cosmic Wars", I don't know, perhaps they didn't have access to the Star Wars intellectual property. Speaking of Star Trek:

"What does god need with a chicken sandwich restaurant?"

Oh, so I was wrong. It's not 5 restaurants. It's 7. I guess folks will have to pull off that second mitten to count that high.
SEVEN! See, a holy number of the lords chicken are being banished from the land in 33 years! It just keeps piling up, no way this is some innocuous clause in a contract! Powers! Principalities!

That doesn’t explain why he brought up numerology, and I don’t see how Star Wars has anything to do with this thread.

explain what more. Why would you think there’s something more?

Because when sacred Christian institutions such as the lords chicken are being persecuted much more is going on than pedestrian things like contracts!

Im actually sympathetic to this. I'm not sure that garbage fast food should be part of govt "services" at all.

Otoh, if the legislature in its wisdom decides a certain service is warranted, then contractors should only sign up if they can provide that service. Its a basic principle that has nothing to with the particular value of fast food nor C-fil-A politics.

Did you read the article? The state contract isn't even with Chick-Fil-A. It's with "Applegreen", who likely has their own contract with Chick-Fil-A.
Applegreen, an Irish convenience store chain with a portfolio of companies including Chick-fil-A, took over the leases of all Thruway Authority service areas in 2021. As of now, there are seven Chick-fil-A locations on the New York State Thruway, with three more scheduled to be built.

The government is concerned with the REALLY important things, like making sure restaurants own the thruway are open 7-days a week (for some unspecified length of time each day) for the "public good". It's ironic that just a few short years ago this same government that shuttered restaurants for the "public good" now wants to force them to be open.

Call me nutsy, but I don't think this should be in the government's purview. This is just one more example of government overreach.

That doesn’t explain why he brought up numerology, and I don’t see how Star Wars has anything to do with this thread.

"Cosmic Wars" is the "fake Star Wars" the used on "The Simpsons" before both were bought by The Mouse. I have no idea what the actual "cosmic wars" reference in this incoherent thread was to. At this point I don't actually care, and I'll continue to eat at Chick-fil-a only on Sundays. (If you want my business, OPEN YOUR STORE!)

I’m not sure I agree with the rule, but we’re talking about five restaurants.
Posting blind, but per the text of the law:

Applegreen's [the company that administers the leases] portfolio of companies include Chick-fil-A, which by compa-
ny policy is closed on Sundays, and which has already opened at seven service areas.

Also:

This legislation will ensure that all future contracts for food conces-
sions at transportation facilities owned by the Thruway Authority, as
well as the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, will be required
to operate seven days a week, with an exclusion to temporary concessions
such as farmers markets or local vendors.

Not clear to me if the current ones would be grandfathered in. Regardless, it's obviously not a law to force CfA to stay open on Sunday, but a law to ensure that concession contracts at these public facilities only go to restaurants that are open seven days a week.
