Israel does, Hamas does not.
To the extent that Israel does, it is 'better' than a terrorist organization. However, it's not clear that Israel discriminates to the extent required by international law, and many observers doubt that they are.

NYT's David Leonhardt writes:

There is substantial evidence that Hamas has used the hospital for military operations and has built a command center underneath it as part of Gaza’s tunnel network:
  • A New York Times journalist in 2008 watched armed Hamas militants walking around Al-Shifa Hospital in civilian clothes and witnessed Hamas execute a Palestinian man accused of collaborating with Israel.
  • Amnesty International concluded that in 2014 Hamas used parts of Al-Shifa “to detain, interrogate, torture and otherwise ill-treat suspects, even as other parts of the hospital continued to function as a medical center.”
  • More recently, Israel has released audio recordings that purport to contain conversations in which Hamas fighters discuss tunnels under Al-Shifa as well as videos of interrogations in which captured militants discuss the tunnels.
  • Israeli officials allowed Times reporters to view photographs that appear to show secret entrances inside the hospital that lead to a military compound underneath.
  • U.S. officials say their own intelligence also indicates Hamas has built a tunnel network under Al-Shifa that includes command and control areas as well as weapons storage.
  • Hamas has a long history of placing its operations in hospitals, mosques and other civilian areas so that Israel must risk killing innocent bystanders — and thereby damage its reputation — to attack Hamas fighters. “I’ve seen these things for myself,” Steven Erlanger, a longtime Times correspondent, has said on “The Daily” podcast.
I dont get how people could think Israel would just threaten or degrade hospitals for no good military reason. This PR is obviously terrible for them.

Doctors Without Borders said one of its locations near al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza, where members of the organization’s staff and their families were sheltering, was fired upon. It said it was trying to evacuate staff and their families, including many children, and had asked Israel and Hamas for safe passage out of Gaza City.

Gaza’s last working flour mill is running out of fuel

The U.N. Development Program said Tuesday it had received reports that its compound in Gaza City has been struck by a shell fired by a tank. There were no reported casualties.

Communication links are breaking down amid fierce fighting across the Gaza Strip and around the enclave’s two largest hospitals, al-Shifa and al-Quds. Gaza Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra told The Washington Post on Tuesday that the official death toll in the territory cannot be updated, citing extended internet cuts and loss of communication with hospitals in the enclave.

A wider communications failure is expected from Thursday when Palestinian officials say they’ll run out of fuel to operate data centers and connection sites.

From your article: "Some were interrogated and tortured or otherwise ill-treated in a disused outpatient’s clinic within the grounds of Gaza City’s main al-Shifa hospital." It's no surprise that Hamas torture people. al Shifa is a big site it's not just one building - so this says there was one instance of Hamas using an empty disused clinic for torture nine years ago. That is very different from having a command base there now. Israel is bombing the hospital now not nine years ago.

And from one of the Times articles: "While it is impossible to independently verify many of the assertions of either side, the competing claims are likely to be tested soon. " It's a pity that the know-alls in this thread don't pay heed to that sound advice.

The first NY Times article is behind a paywall.

Not sure if this was brought up already, but the IOF released probably one of the dumbest propaganda skits I've ever seen saying that a calendar at the Rantisi Children's Hospital in Gaza has a hostage guard list on it. The problem is that the names they're pointing to just say Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday etc in Arabic.

View attachment 339262
A Link to an analysis of the "irrefutable proof" and whether it holds up to scrutiny:
Well, that is obvious.....you can look at the dates and tell that. What does the writing at the very top of the calendar say? (assuming you can read Arabic)

NM, the video explains it. The big unanswered question is "Who were these guards guarding?" We can make some good (probably very accurate) assumptions especially since the calendar starts out on 10/7.

Of course. The article is citing a precedent of behavior that informs whether they may still be doing it today.

A simple alternative explanation is that it's an underground shelter used by hospital patients and staff used in times of bombardment and the guards' rota is simply a hand written calendar.

It's comforting to know how Israel has dealt with one of the most notorious Hamas militants:
Gaza: Elderly Christian music teacher shot by Israeli army | ICN

This is what she looked like:
Screenshot 2023-11-14 at 19-49-16 Gaza Elderly Christian music teacher shot by Israeli army ICN.png

We've received a number of reports that an elderly Christian woman was shot dead yesterday by the Israeli army outside the Holy Family Church in Gaza.

Elham Farah, 84, had been sheltering inside the church for some time. On Sunday night she stepped outside the building to see if her house was still standing. She was shot in the leg and fell to the ground. People in the church were unable to rescue her, as each time they went out they came under fire.

She lay in the street all night. On Monday morning it was reported that an Israeli tank ran over her body
.

Elham was a popular music teacher in Gaza, described as 'loving, calm and a true educator.' A devout Christian, she came from a strong Gazan Christian family. Her father Hanna Farah, was a well known Palestinian poet. She loved to travel to the West Bank when permission was given to the Gazan Christians to celebrate Christmas and Easter with the church there.

Rest in Peace Elham
Another heroic act by the brave soldiers of the IDF who are so much better than their Hamas enemy.

I heard there was a video released yesterday of a Gazan man evacuating south, and he was saying something to the effect of "The Arabs caused all this. The Jews are kind to us." This was supposedly said in front of an Al Jazeera camera. I can't find the video. Anyone seen it? Anyone know if it got aired on Al Jazeera?

You have replied to your own post #388 - that is like talking to yourself  Why didn't you add to your post #388 as that was your reply to Abraxos?

Remember that the IDF man claimed that the writing above the dates were the names of the Hamas guards (why would they give their names away?) but Arab linguists have stated they are the names of the days of the week. Kind of throws doubt on his other claims doesn't it. There is a repeat pattern of length seven days - and allowing for the poor handwriting they do look like the Arabic days of the week. Still given that you swallow everything the IDF says without question I know you will not be convinced. A start date of October 7 could just mean the hospital staff kept abreast of the important to them news event.

Also the curtain is suspicious. It looks similar to one seen in a hostage video:
Hamas Releases Video Of 21-Year-Old Israeli Hostage Mia Schem

similar but not the same - the hostage video curtain has a pleating pattern and white flowers that flow roughly horizontally across but the IDF video curtain does not have the pleats and the flowers are red and more vertical. The background colour is very similar It could just mean that the taste in curtains in Gaza are similar for everybody or it could mean the IDF couldn't source the exact same curtain so brought along their nearest match.

Remember the last one you brought up:
Oh look there's a hole in the ground just outside the entrance to the Qatari hospital so it must be an entrance to a Hamas tunnel mustn't it. It couldn't possibly be a hatch to an underground water cistern could it!

Now this doesn't mean that every IDF video is fake but clearly some are and one shouldn't just accept them unthinkingly.

The news media were quick to say that Hamas blamed Israel for an explosion at a hospital.
BBC News reported the explosion as an Israeli airstrike, and then, when evidence made it clear that it was a misfired Hamas rocket, it had to go into urgent damage control. It is interesting that no apology from either the BBC New nor The New York Times to Israel was made for their false reporting.
