  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ted Cruz says he’s opening an investigation into Bud Light

According to a letter Cruz and Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee sent to Brendan Whitworth, the Anheuser-Busch CEO and chairman of the Beer Institute, Bud Light might have violated existing guidelines that prevent beer companies from promoting their products to younger audiences.

“We would urge you, in your capacity at Anheuser-Busch, to avoid a lengthy investigation by the Beer Institute by instead having Anheuser-Busch publicly sever its relationship with Dylan Mulvaney, publicly apologize to the American people for marketing alcoholic beverages to minors, and direct Dylan Mulvaney to remove any Anheuser-Busch content from his social media platforms,” the far-right senators wrote.

At least he's on top of the important issues.

Dylan Mulvaney is 26.
I assume he has a large audience who might be minor, just like sports. So weird he's silent about banning alcohol adverts/sponsorship in sport.

Creating legislation to reform our immigration laws and budget issues is simply too much to ask from these politicians. I wish Americans could stop reelecting these inept, self-serving thespians. We are a counterproductive, tribal voting electorate in America and we are directly responsible for our incompetent government.

Weak, insipid, tasteless, no character and lacking any substance whatsoever. And to be honest, even a little makes me want to throw up. And I don't like Bud Light either.

I applaud the USAs quick move towards a planned economy, where the business decisions of companies are subject to swift sanction when they do not follow political correctness.

Uh boy, more militant radicalism... It's these types of conservatives that prevent the GOP from gaining a lot more LGBT voters.

Of course there are.

But culture wars is how R's plan to cling to their base in the absence of any plans to deal with substantial issues.

With the new right, it's true. This new Republican Party coming from the SE, they don't much care about our US military dominance, they don't care about helping spread democracy... They're so far away from Reagan now, he wouldn't even recognize them.

...All that's left now are culture wars, when you take international politics away.

While it's pretty obvious that Cruz is attempting to target bud light in a way that gives him some cover (going after the marketing rules so that he can claim it's not a targeted attack for LGBT reasons when challenged on it)

It'd be much like if a politician wanted to pander to antisemitic people (without opening themselves up to being called racists themselves), saying "I don't have anything against Jewish people, I just want to open up these investigations into the Kosher restaurants because I'm really concerned about whether or not they're following health code regulations" (but not investigating anyone else but them)

The marketing rule, none the less, does state: According to the rules, advertisements and marketing can only be placed in settings where at least 73.6% of the audience is expected to be above the legal drinking age. And covers the following forms: magazines, newspapers, television, radio and digital media

The TikTok demographics report he cites showed roughly 17% of the platform is users between 13 and 17 years old while 42% of the platform is 18 to 24 years old.

So, regardless of whether or not his motives are pure (it's pretty obvious they're not and he's just glomming onto the culture war stuff), the complaint may "technically" be legit on paper, even if his stated motivations are a phony façade.

73%? Then they probably should be concerned about the NFL and college football and basketball on TV.
Teenagers are playing these sports inside and outside of school and they are loyal followers.
The Beer Inst. knows this but they aren't going to stop the marketing of beer on TV.
